Ó

No wonder a whole lot of shows have hailed Peter Molyneux as a gaming god. The man's a genius. Don't believe us? Check out his latest mad experiment.

During his GDC demonstration in 2005, the Lionhead Studios head demoed his brainchild: The Room. Not really a game, but more of an experiment dabbling in Hyper realistic surroundings, portals, and incredible definition. Where objects age and books have individual pages. A lot of people say that graphics are superfluous and what's important is gameplay experience and fun, well, thing is, sometimes graphics add to the fun and contributes to immersing you into the experience. As this demo shows, it's all about execution.

Synergy of interaction, design, and graphical power, something we should expect and grade the next-gen by.

 » Yeah...

That looks like source on steroids X 1000.

I really hope this is a peek at how Fable 2 will be....if so, I really cannot wait. Considering he said it was just a tech demo, and will not be released as a game, this is probably going to be the engine that Fable 2 runs on....which makes me giddy as hell....

» That would be fecking awesome.

Amazing, I wish they'd release that tech demo o_o
And if that's the engine that Fable 2 runs on, then.. wow.. just.. wow

 » PC

That's clearly PC guys, what are you talking about?

   Re: Shatterdome - 2006-12-18
 » Use your head....

Yes, clearly the tech demo was on PC, but so are all games on 360....you first dev on a PC then Run alpha/beta code on whatever console....Consider this is MS's studio, or course the chance of this tech comming to 360 is more then likely...as well as him saying this will define the next generation...of what ? PC's ? There is no such thing as a next gen PC, just 4 month iterations....

» This is not possible on the PS3.

So why is it PS3 news?
For this, the PS3 has WAY too less ram. (for these details)
I would say this demo ran on a Core2Xtreme with at least 4GB ram.
the 256MB of the PS3 are for louthing out loud in this case.

   Re: lawl (Unregistered) - 2006-12-18
 » ps3 has 512 ram

go away dumb

   Re: Shatterdome - 2006-12-18
 » Actually...

It does only have 256 of System memory....sure the PS3 CAN use the Video memory as system memory as well, but the access time to it from the Cell is so slow that it's not even worth it.....You notice in all the cross platform games how PS3 has worse textures ? Yeah.....

 » FRIGGIN COOL !!

They're talking about PC also...Fable was released on PC as well as Xbox. Awesome game, Fable. Harder than heck to play with a touch pad though:P...lol. Same with Black and White 2. I think I like the portal part the best from this demo. I can see them using this in something like Fable , so as to keep the game play constant, and not having load times in between going from town to town. Of course EVERY game would be enhanced greatly with these portals, very nice concept.

   Re: Jake (Unregistered) - 2006-12-19
 » No

This is not just about portals, it is completely different.
The room+ not portals
   by hush404 - 2006-12-19
 » 2 things.

1- I would love to see a dev try to put that much detail into a complete game let alone a room.

2- Peter Molyneux, while arguably one of the best in the industry really can't flourish at will, for he is owned by MS.

   Re: Jake (Unregistered) - 2006-12-19
 » And

1. Well you're gonna see it

2. I don't know what you're talking abouit
   by yourname (Unregistered) - 2006-12-19
 » not impressed

looks like a step above what HL2 has already done... Take the source engine and add some better models...

Dragging items around the room and throwing them is sooo last year.... I want to see fully destructable environments and bigger explosions!

» Its Peter Moleneaux (or however u spell his name)

You cant trust anything this guy says. He promises great grand and wonderful things and hardly delivers on any of them.
