CYCLOWIZ site to open soon - Image 1While we're still speculating on whether Team Ninja's modchip for the Wii is the real deal, in comes this news bit on something equally interesting. Teamcyclops has just announced the upcoming release of its very own mod chip which, much like its Wiinja counterpart, allows the console to play GameCube and Wii backups.

As for the other details surrounding this chip:

  • Quicksolder (no wires required)
  • Plays Wii Backups
  • Plays GC Backups
  • Play GC Homebrew
  • Play GC Imports (swap needed)
  • Built-in Audiofix (GC games using streaming are working flawlessly, no patch needed)
  • DVD-R / DVD+R support
  • Optional chip disable wire
  • Stealth even when chip is enabled
  • Multi-purpose LED
Further reports say that this chip may be shipping in by next week, though there has not been any news on a set price. The team's site isn't up yet though, so we're going to have to file this under rumor for now. We advise the hopefuls to keep track of this development in case any further news turns up. For now, take you pick on similar announcements in the past...

Why shoude it now be posible?

   Re: Paka (Unregistered) - 2007-01-29
 » Ofcourse you can

Ofcourse you can
the modchip gets the wii to play dvd-r and rw
This WAS the problem and its is what the modchip has fixed

   Re: Shrink (Unregistered) - 2007-01-30
 » @Paka

You can play them (as seen in Wiinja Videos).
We already know how to unscramble them on your hard drive.
But still no one knows how they can be burned on DVD.

 » real!

looking at the picture, there is no way this is fake, i had doubt about the Wiinja too, but this one is for real, so probably Wiinja was real too, they probably had to announce it after Ninja team did, as the way it looks, is was under development for quite a while.

Where are you comming from with this "looking at the picture" thing? Anyone can make a corporate looking logo, its not hard.

 » Burning DVD-Backups

I don't know. Of course we've seen some Wiinja Videos showing backup discs being played. But for me backing up a disc is not possible. I can unscramble it to PC of course. But burning is still a mystery.

» You get a dvd burner SIMPLE

You get a dvd burner SIMPLE
This modchip makes it play simple dvds

   Re: Shrink (Unregistered) - 2007-01-30
 » Ah, wiseguy

So you tell me HOW TO BURN it.
It's just not that SIMPLE!

 » No...

Nintendo don't deserve this. The 'backup' you speak of is a 'torrented ISO' is it not? Could you not just look after your games so you don't need backups? Seriously, who would buy an expensive modchip so they don't have to look after their games? It's piracy, I tell you, and Nintendo don't deserve it.

 » Speaking first hand

Just so happens that last week my 3 year old son scratched one of our PS2 games beyond use. Doesn't matter how well you look after things - CDs scratch. I would love to back up my games just like my DVDs.

 » Nintendo?

You mean the company charging over 60$ for 1 full controller?

   by Shrink (Unregistered) - 2007-01-29
 » @cX

Man you don't have a clue.
I own Wii Sports an I tell you: The last time I put it in my Wii wouldn't accept it 5 times! No lie! I DID NOT scratch the DVD or anything and I just don't know why it didn't work.
AND YES: People with special LG drives CAN make backups and don't have to download torrents.
SO SHUT UP IDIOT!

 » Quicksolder

Anyone know exactly what they mean by quicksolder?

   Re: Danman (Unregistered) - 2007-01-29
 » Quicksolder

its were you get a solder iron and melt it onto the wii :D

   Re: Traken (Unregistered) - 2007-01-29
 » Quicksolder

I think quicksolder means no soldering required. It looks like it is screwed on to the console board, so all it really needs is for the contacts to be touching to work.

Down side is that the screw might come loose and end up screwing something up.

 » Quicksolder

Actually quicksolder is where you align the holes with the motherboard and melt solder into them to form the electrical connection. So it is slightly easier than soldering wires, but it is a ***** to remove.

 » Multi-region?

I'm guessing this is no better than the Wiinja in that it can only play your own region backups...

   Re: *****lover (Unregistered) - 2007-01-30
 » agreed

i agree.. i get chips for backups but also imports
