Some enterprising fellows have figured out a way to hack the Wii. It isn't just any hack though: it essentially lets you go on the net through Wii's Shopping Channel without waiting for Opera to be operational on the console.

Volsfan91, our tipster, took a video of his own attempt at doing the workaround. He picked up the tutorial from a forum post, which we won't cite unless we want to wake up next to Nintendo's lawyers tomorrow. While it seems like a moot point, given that Opera will head to the Wii soon enough, this is a rather interesting way of forcibly getting something you want out of your hardware.

In any case, enjoy the video, and if you have an idea of how else this can be applied for the Wii, let us know.

If the Wii is so bad, why is outselling the PS3 by more than double? And why did Sony feel compelled to introduce a "tilt sensor"? Moron.

People need to learn how to take better videos.

The dude juts needs to place it on a tripod, or a shelf, or some books, or something. Seriously, all this shaking of the camera and no talking but whispering really makes the video claustrophobic.

I dont have a wii yet, im in the UK. But im pretty sure it will connect to 1 network for both the shopping channel and the opera browser, so why would you need to have two seperate SSID's to get this to work?

I wonder if this hack would work in reverse? i.e. re-directing all traffic from google to the Wii Shop channel.

Imagine Wii Shop Channel on your PC! It'd certainly make things interesting :D

I'm the maker of this video. Let's clear some stuff up:

1) I was in a hurry to take the video. Sorry that it does not live up to the professional standards you guys set.

2) It's not fake.

3) I don't know why they can't give the link to that site. There's nothing illegal there.

 » you guys are stupid

common sense: its the same way you did it on wipeout for the psp.

Theres no reason for people to be scaared of releasing this stuff already

change your DNS settings to redirect traffic tto a different domain that you want to start your browsing at.

» False DNS records on a proxy...

..Are illegal now?!? I'll tell you who needs a lawyer, its QJ.NET

This same trick was done with the PSP wipeout Browser and how many people did sony (a much more sue happy company) sue? NONE, because it's not illeagle to build a proxy with custom DNS records. (the easiest way to acheve what was done here). and so simply that I would argue that this doesn't qualify as a hack...

Yeah, ironically, the Wipeout browser was so popular with people that Sony went and made the one in 2.0.
