Despite popular opinion, Rygar: The Battle of Argus isn't a sequel to the PS2's Rygar: The Legendary Adventure. Rather, it's going to be a "Wii edition" much like what Capcom did to Resident Evil 4. Tecmo is porting the 2002 title to the Wii, full with redesigned characters and enemies, and Wii remote support to make all the Greco Roman action that much more intense. If you haven't had the chance to get to know Rygar before, just think of Captain America, only de-incarnated back into the Greek and Roman mythology. See, Rygar's main weapon is the Diskarmor, and with it he gets to bash some Titan (i.e. Titanic?) butt. Yes, the reception for the original Rygar title was rather lukewarm, but it did hold some promise for the "epic fun" fanbase. But judging from this batch of screenshots, maybe this Wii edition will fulfill that promise. Here, we see Rygar doing his Greco Roman acrobatics, faced with a couple of baddies, including a boss named Hekatonkeil (AKA Hecatonchieres). The battle here looks fierce - some might say of God of War proportions, even. Check it out! |

Tecmo is calling in the big guns as they enlisted the help of Fatal Frame's producer Keisuke Kikuchi and his newly formed Team Tachyon to spearhead the upcoming Rygar: The Battle of Argus action game for the Nintendo Wii. Taking into account its humble beginnings as a coin-op arcade game, Kikuchi explains the development of this old time game and moving it onto the next generation platform. Most gamers were slightly disappointed with Tecmo's decision to remake the rather lukewarm PS2 version of Rygar. However, Kikuchi says that instead of creating a game from the ground up, he prefers making games based on a central theme core and build around them new and unique features based on the console. A testament to this are his well-renowned horror survival games, Fatal Frame. He explains his game making philosophy in detail: My game-making philosophy has always been to focus on one thing, and build the game around that one main theme. For instance with Fatal Frame it was horror, it was a scary game and the whole game was built around that one big theme. So in the case of a new Rygar, my focus was on how to best utilize the Wii control. Everything is built around the Diskarmor control using the Wii controller. Of course I could have started everything from scratch on a new Rygar project, but if I was to do that it might not have been on Wii, we could have done it for PS3, 360, PS2. However, why we focused on Wii was because of what we could do with the Wii controller. Because of that, even though the game may be based on a five year-old game, as you call it, it will still feel very fresh and very unique on the Wii system. That way I can focus on that one important thing. Currently, they are working on perfecting the controls that Rygar's "Diskarmor" and how flexible the Wiimote will be during the game's combat. Also, they're matching the game's graphics from its PS2 base to an optimized version for the Wii. Kikuchi also talks about how the combat will involve a lot of "muscle impact." While it sounds a little stressful on the arms, it definitely gives a gamer a feel of what it's like going through hordes of giant pillbugs and gleefully taking them out with Rygar's Diskarmor. So far, the designs and screenshots they've shown are beyond stellar. Hopefully, we can expect the game's release either by the end of the year or early 2008. |

Tecmo's Rygar: The Battle of Argus looks to be a game that's hard to dislike. With epic boss battles and awesome combo moves, it is a worthy successor to the Rygar series.
The immediate sequel of the PS2 game Rygar: The Legendary Adventure, this title continues the tradition set by its predecessor by featuring Diskarmor (a shield attached to a chain). The video from TGS shows off some cinematics as well as a little bit of gameplay. While we haven't had a chance to try the game yet, the thought of using the Wiimote to control the main character's weapon is very appealing indeed. This Wii exclusive is currently slated for a December 3 release. Tecmo has been very quiet about it, so there's really not much we can do but wait for the release. Here's the video, Enjoy! |

The big bad beat down known as Project Rygar is coming to the Wii courtesy Tecmo. This game is the sequel to the game Rygar: The Legendary Adventure which was released on PS2 last 2002. These screenshots show off this barbarian-like character (Rygar perhaps?) wielding a weapon called Diskarmor. Diskarmor is essentially a shield with a chain attached to it, thus extending the range of your character's attack radius quite a lot. I was rather impressed by the variety of moves being show off, and the enemies that you will have to face. Make no mistake about it, this game is shaping up to have some really good graphics. Tecmo hasn't announced when this game will be hitting the market yet, but you can bet that we'll be giving you word on this as soon as it does. While waiting you can check out these screenshots courtesy of Famitsu. Enjoy. More screenshots - just click on the Full Article link below. |
