When you talk of music games, the guitar always gets the spotlight among the usual instruments used in a band. That's about to change now, though, as Rolling Stone Magazine hooks up with 505 Games to bring you Rolling Stone: Drum King for the Nintendo Wii. And yes, it's all about the drums.
Using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, players simulate playing the drums, as in Wii Music, but only this one is more for the rocker in you. Coming along with this description is the now customary avatar customization and single-player or duel mode features. Said Rolling Stone publisher Will Schneck: For more than 40 years, Rolling Stone has been a staple in the voice of American music culture and entertainment and we are pleased to collaborate with 505 Games as we venture into video games for the first time. With more people playing console video games than ever before, this was a natural next step for the Rolling Stone brand. The set list is impressive too, with the likes of Queen, Smash Mouth, Gorillaz, Soundgarden and Blur making the cut. Do note that all these are cover tracks, however, and are not the originals. Here's the list:
Rolling Stone: Drum King is so far announced for a Spring release date, so expect to hear a more specific date soon. |

» Ugh...
The fact that the songs are not the originals completely kills the game. (Forgetting the fact that the instrument-playing genre is swiftly becoming played out).
Remember the first two Guitar Heros? The "inspired by" songs were absolutely terrible. The saving grace came from the original recordings of the songs.
This game, with every song being a cover, is going to be awful.

» Totally agree..
...the original Drum King was amazingly terrible, why Rolling Stone are doing this is beyond me.
