Rock Band to have 5,000 songs by years end? - Image 1

Can't find a song worth playing in Rock Band (360, PS3)? Harmonix has you covered. According to a Yahoo news report, they're expecting to increase the number of available songs this year to as many as 5,000. Since they only have around 500 right now, I'm rather curious to see how they're going to jump that up tenfold.

Red Octane, responsible for the Guitar Hero franchise and once-partner of Harmonix, has an even more ambitious plan in store though. The studio has expressed interest in bundling download-to-own tracks with any song purchased for either game. That would be a pretty sweet deal, though it'll probably be hell for publishing rights.

GTA IV already explored the idea of selling in-game music, allowing gamers to tag tracks in the game for purchase on Amazon. Hopefully the trend catches on. I would love to download tracks from games without actually having to buy the whole album.
