Rock Band - Image 1Harmonix's Rob Kay, the lead designer of Rock Band (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3,Nintendo Wii), has come out and said that they want Nintendo to release a hard drive so they can provide downloadable content for the Wii version of the game.

Kay pointed out that "if the platform could do it, we'd jump on it." He added that they've been championing this issue to Nintendo and that the lack of a hard drive is "the reason there's no DLC in Wii Rock Band."

A previous statement from Nintendo of America made clear that it feels that that there is no need for a Wii hard drive. Well, certain developers certainly don't think so, and we're pretty sure that those who plan on picking up Rock Band for the Wii will probably agree. What do you think?

I think Nintendo's out of their goddamn minds to not offer a Wii hard drive. The SD card is WAY TOO SLOW.

Hell, the SD card slot is useless bar backing up saves and using the Photo channel. I still find it crazy that it's not a simple task to take a save to a friend's place (not that any of my friends have a Wii, but for arguments sake..).

Why bother petitioning Nintendo for anything. If you want Rock Band, play it on a real system!

How much will a Wii cost equipped with a hard drive? $400?

 » You're an idiot.

Mister Common Sense (or lack thereof), your screen name is misleading; it suggests you have "Common Sense", but all you do is bullsh1t and ask ridiculous questions. I'll help you understand.

The petition is there so that us Wii owners can hopefully get a hard drive add-on.

The Wii exists, is outselling the competition by a landslide, and has as many enjoyable games as any other console. Therefore, it is a real system. So, instead of saying 'real', why not say "a system that has a lot of power, but ironically only gets as good or worse games than the console I'm jealous of; the Nintendo Wii"?

You're probably right about the price, I concede; $400 is about £200 over in the UK, where I live, so I'd expect a, say, 20GB HDD bundled Wii to cost around £30-£35, or $60-$70 extra.

Lastly, I have a perfectly valid question for you: why, when you are clearly a Microsoft/Sony fanboy, do you visit the Nintendo pages of QJ and post your mindless drivel? I can't stand fanboys like you. For that matter, ANY fanboys, be it Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo, are sad. There's nothing wrong with liking a console/company, or even disliking another, but when morons like you post your crap purely to annoy or insult others (i.e. Nintendo or Nintendo console owners), it really is sad. I think I speak for all Nintendo fans when I say: I pity you. And you're a moron.

It was already announced the Wii is getting the crippled PS2 version, even though some still think the Wii is really next gen. A hard drive won't help much.

Nintendo will not offer a hard drive because supposedly its not needed. Neither is an up to date CPU or GPU, newer than 10 year old sound output technology, industry standard DVD player, etc.

If Nintendo releases a hard drive (and wants profit from its sale) then people will realize what a ripoff the Wii really is when people pay up to $400 for the Wii/HDD combo.

Not having the hard drive helps Ninty make more money, so that will not change.

 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

I don't see the problem. Nintendo is right, a HDD is not needed. It would certainly be more convenient! But not "needed".

While you would miss out on being able to buy very specific songs on a song by song basis you would also save money on a per song basis by having SONG DISCS sold as an add on to the game.

I'm sure if everyone thought for a second instead of ranting like a child such as Mr. Nonsense that people could come up with perfectly acceptable alternatives.

This truly is no big deal. In the end if you don't like the solution then don't buy it.....

   Re: Scarface88 - 2008-04-10
 » You have a point...

...but when it's considered how many songs are to be available for download, and the file size of the average song (plus the fact that they're multi-layered; bigger files), a HDD would be very handy. In addition, if Nintendo did release a HDD, then developers would have more freedom with what they want to put up for download in terms of content; maps, music, characters, items, levels... but I suppose Nintendo's got a plan already to handle DLC, and the answer may be a HDD, or it may not be. We'll just have to wait and see. But I reitorate: you do have a point; people are making a big deal out of a small potential problem.

 » It'll be nice

if Nintendo did go with making a HDD (though MCS would probably complain about them marketing it in the first place). I agree with what Scarface88 said, that developers would have more freedom and what not. They could also release a firmware update that allows USB connection of an external HDD that would show up in the data section when recognized.
Well, these are all just thoughts. We'll see what happens concerning WiiWare and that Wii P2P service in the future. (along with future MCS rants)

Agreed, however as I stated before, "a HDD will be possible to connect with the developments of homebrew."

Just got to be patient like Pandora's battery for the PSP.

Victory is ours!......well except for Freeplay and Mr. Sense
