They all want a Wii - Image 1There is no conspiracy behind Nintendo Wii shortage, says Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime. Nintendo has been accused of keeping supply limited to increase hype and enjoy all the "sold out" headlines we've seen in the past, but Fils-Aime sees the problem as a "missed opportunity."

"There is no secret plan to store Wiis in a warehouse to spur demand. The company, after all, is trying to reach out to women and 40 and 50-year olds who aren't avid gamers," Nintendo's head honcho said. He continued, "They aren't going to sleep outside of a store overnight or visit a retailer five or six times. It is literally a missed opportunity."

Fils-Aime added, "at this point, we are literally trying to catch up with demand." Last month, Nintendo stated that the monthly output of 1.8 million Wii units will remain unchanged even as we enter the holiday craze. Looks like we'll have to wait and see if the white hot console will be available to everyone.

There is no excusable reason why they cant produce PS2s at the same rate real PS2s are produced at.

They just want to be able to sell PS2s at triple the price real PS2s are sold at.

This artificial shortage is the main cause of the demand in the first place. It's not a missed opportunity, it's creating it.

You fail again Nintendo.

Um.. if u say they are creating this demand how do they fail?? Seems to be working fine for them. Don't forget that nintendo is the smallest firm of the three maybe they cant produce em quickly enough.

Sony sold 130 million PS2s and they only had shortages for the first 4 months.

You can choose not to believe me, but I know for a fact that Nintendo is full of s*it when they announce things like this. When Wiis are hard to find and in demand, people pay less attention to the fact that there's NO DECENT GAMES and ALMOST NO MORE IN DEVELOPMENT.

Sony attempted to create demand by limiting shipments with the PS3 launch last year, but it didn't work very well due to the high price.

Dude Nintendo just sold 650k consoles in two weeks, how does that prove an artificial shortage?

Actually Sony didn't intend on limiting the PS3 last year, the only reason why its was limited in supply is because the fact the Blu-diodes was very short of supply and they would only have so much out there while they can get more of the parts for the PS3.
And that like you said still didn't raise the price cause of the $599 price tag.

As for the rest of your thing, i think what you mean is Nintendo wants to have limited supply to keep the hype for Wii in the future. Cause the fact is if they had enough supply at one point the sales will drop and they won't be selling alot if any during the months or weeks, similar to whats happening in Japan. Everyone who wants a Wii there probably already has one. Which is why the sales are dropping, and the PS3 is actually gaining ground on it.

As i have stated there have been at least 6 count them 6 Nintendo made games that have gotten ratings of 7 or higher 5 of which have recieved 9 or higher by various magizines and sites. One game off the top of my head is Zack and wiki and that has been well praised it was made by capcom and how can u forget smash bros oh and just to piss u off let me restate that Super mario galaxy has been the 2nd most highly rated game ever and the number 1 most this gen.

Honestly, I don't get why people put the Wii down for outselling other consoles. They say, "Oh, well the Wii is still sold out." THAT IS A GOOD THING, PEOPLE!!! Sure, anyone who wants one has to look harder for it, but at least there is still a want from the public for the Wii to keep on selling.

The PS3, unfortunately, was stocking on shelves and staying there for a good 2-3 days before someone walked in determined to buy one. "Oh, so I guess Sony is actually producing them faster?" True, but it also means they aren't selling as well. I had a PS3 once for about 2-3 months after christmas of '06. The only game I owned was "Tales of Genji: Days of the Blade" (Which was an okay game. Graphics were good, story line awesome, gameplay ok, camera angles sucked. 3.5 out of 5), and I felt like this was all the PS3 could provide. Graphics and gameplay (Yes, it was only one game, but read on, people). I had some songs on there from my iTunes playlist and a photo or two, but I never really connected with it.

Besides, a console won't sell when a majority of its players are ages 10-30, stated in a post I wrote earlier. The Wii, however, is being sold to ages 5-70, which is a rough quesstimate on my part, but you must agree that the Wii attracts a larger variety of age groups. So yes, the Wii might be sold out, it might be hard to find, and you might not see it have a shelf life of more than an hour until next summer. But since when was this a bad thing?

-2nd paragraph: "The PS3, unfortunately, was stocking on shelves and staying there for a good 2-3 days before someone walked in determined to buy one."....about 3-4 months after its release. Yes, we heard about the killings and thieverings and mass preganancies just to get one, I just wanted to correct myself that they didn't stock up until later.
