Another loss to the gaming community has occurred once again, as Ocarina Of Time 2D forum admin brings sad tidings. According to Revenant, Richard Denton (better known as Dampe among the forum members) has passed away, after having been involved in a vehicular accident. At the moment, no details are being given about the said accident, as Denton's friends and family are still coping with the loss. As explained by Revenant,

I'm not feeling up to explaining detail of the accident, and how it happened, I'm just here to notify everyone since his family would be devastated, and his brother probably wouldn't want to explain the loss to a bunch of guys on the net.

In the meantime, the future of the community which was built around Denton's work remains uncertain. As of this writing, we have noted that the official website of Ocarina of Time 2D has been taken down upon Denton's family's request

Richard Denton was the creator of the much-awaited fan-made title, Ocarina of Time 2D. As the name of the video game suggests, the aim of the project was to reproduce one of video game history's most successful games, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, in 2D instead of 3D. This move has made the game look like the original Zelda game, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, thus managing to merge two of the most-loved Zelda games into one.

Dampe will be missed. May he find his Hyrule.

For those who may be unfamiliar with Dampe's work, here's a video to show you what it was all about, and why so many people will miss him badly.

 » Although...

Although it's pretty much the only excuse he hasn't given to delay his project :P

Anyway, it's really sad to see this guy go. I was looking forward to this port.

 » my take on things

i'm sorry but its hard to believe this story...this kid was 15 and working with only one other "devver" basically his buddy hooked him up with the sprites and he put it all together with "rpg maker"....he got deep over his head and what's a better way to back out then "death"....i know this is extremly controversial, but you have to take into account that the weather was fine in his area the night a car "spun out of control on a wet road"...no obituaries in his area....and his message board account was last seen a day after his death...i got all my info from the lovley digg members (http://www.digg.com/gaming_news/ocarina_of_time_2d_creator_DEAD)...if i died my family would not rush to my counter striek teams ventrillo/message board and inform my internet/LAN buddies (even though they know i hold a strong presence in the CS world) THE NEXT DAY! and what parent would want to kill a sons creation,THE NEXT DAY!

im sorry but ill remain skeptical, when i first read about this port i knew it was never going to be released, just looking at the children working on it...

 » peejah's right IMO

I also find the family taking down the site to be bizzare. Why wouldn't they let his friends finish the project? What would be gained by wiping out his work?

 » not advertising....

WJ.net promotes itself on digg...and takes from it...more or less collaboration

R.I.P. buddy. If what peejah says is true, shame, but until that has some verification, God rest his soul.

The family taking down what would be an epic memorial to the guy. Makes no sense.

However, teenage boy as vehicular fatality? Leading cause of death among males 15-24...
