Nintendo's magic wand continues its domination in U.S. territories, having sold 425,000 Wii units this July according to NPD. We last heard Nintendo saying supply is unable to keep up with demand, yet the numbers are still steep. For Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter, some smart strategy may have been implemented.

Big sales and low supply don't add up, or at least Pachter believes. Ninty keeps on racking up these numbers even with supposed shortage. "This increase is inconsistent with reports that Nintendo has had difficulty in increasing its manufacturing capacity," the analyst said.

The answer to this, Pachter reckons, is that "the company has diverted supply from other areas (perhaps Japan) to the U.S." Reports earlier this month were saying that Japanese Wii supply just started normalizing late July, which could very well imply that the land of the rising sun suffered serious shortage before then.
