Nintendo Wii - Image 1Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter is back with some more predictions concerning the never-dying topic of who will win the seventh-generation console war. This time, he says that the Nintendo Wii will continue its momentum for a year more, then the Sony PlayStation 3 will take command.

The catalyst for this change of momentum, says Pachter, will be pricing. He said that further drops in the PS3's retail value will give consumers the last push to get the machine.

"I think the Wii momentum will last until the Playstation 3 is under US$ 300, so another year," adds the well-known analyst in the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly.

Those who have been following the console war debate will know that Pachter has had his money on the PS3 from the very beginning. Even in the toughest times of the beleaguered console, Pachter expressed optimism that it will come out on top in the long run.

Pachter could be right, as fiscal 2008 is earmarked as the period when Sony will throw the first wave of big bombs. A revitalized PlayStation Network, the emerging dominance of Blu-ray, the impending launch of PlayStation Home, and the slated releases of big exclusive games like Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue are all factors being taken into consideration.

The only question that Pachter has to answer now is this: What if PS3 rivals Wii and Microsoft Xbox 360 cut their prices to compete?

» It will happen very soon

Since Nintendo isn't trying and they think the Wii will be successful forever because of a controller, Sony's constant new features and upcoming GOOD exclusive games will kick the Wii's arse into oblivion.

» Bah ur a **** Mr Common sense

I actually hope that Ps3 stops sucking so much but really i hope Nintendo can stay on top! and there are alot better exclusives on the wii dude....but you wouldnt know that!

 » Here's just another PS3 advantage I found....

I recently tried out my PS3's remote play feature using my PSP. It was very cool! I could stream music from my PC, to my PS3, to my PSP over the internet with no lag. I could also play PS1 discs (in the PS3) on the PSP, play videos on the PS3 hard drive, view photos on the PS3 or my PC, and turn on/off the PS3 from any internet hotspot using the PSP!

When will Nintendo ever implement the promised DS-Wii connectivity? Will it ever be remotely useful?

 » they have

you idiot with Pokemon

The reviews for Pokemon on the Wii were horrible, even if you like those retarded kid's games. The Wii only has like 4 online games after over a year. At least that's slightly better than the Gamecube's horrible online support.

 » if you

play games based on reviews then your stupid
my wii gets turn on way more then my ps3 only time thing gets turn on is to heat my room up a little bit

I don't need a review to realize pokemon games suck, yes all 100 of them. And no you don't have a PS3. I do have a Wii, no actually it's a gamecube (why do I always get those 2 confused?)

» that a bold statement mister common sense

 » Blah

Thats a bold statement. Why dont they concentrate on fixing the Rock band GH3 guitar issues.

Re: Mister Common Sense - 2008-01-21
 » ?

Activision stopped the release of the GH patch, not Sony.

I'd be more worried about the fact that Wii GHIII still has mono sound.

you would have known dealing with that already

There's also the fact that the wii will never get Rock Band on it.

they have said they are thing about it

 » hmm

a price cut could happen I guess, since Sony breaks about even right now for every console sold.

I think it started out at $800 to manufacture each console and now it's supposedly half that.

And a year to catch up to Wii is way quicker than I would have thought.

» Who cares about catching up to the Wii..

Just let the Wii be, it's a underpowered, yet fun console with it's main consumergroup amongst another crowd then the PS3's. Let's just focus on taking out Microsoft for trying to dominate another market with failing hard- and software.

 » What

Why is this guy always sweating sony's balls? Even though he knows the wii is the best he says things like this, because he wants it to do good when it's in a poor state.

   by Hekynn - 2008-01-19
 » nice

well I can see them lowering the prices on 80gb-40gb when the new models come out along with games that be sweeet :D

 » You know what...

I'm gunna give my self a random name, and tell everyone that orange juice will sell more than milk for 2 years before being over runned by soda.

Anyone can guess things, so why the hell should we listen to him? Even if he's from some gaming place, I can guess just as good as him.

Anyways back on topic. I think he's wrong only because seriously, look at all the perfect titles coming to the PS3 this year. Mgs4, Killzone 2, Little big planet (a lot of people that like wii games should like LBP), Resistance 2, and I bet motorstorm 2 too. People will notice these games and I think if there is another price cut then the PS3 will be on top.
