Wii, PS3 - Image 1

While powering its way to the top of the charts, the PS3 continues to eye bigger mountains to scale and conquer. The recent Sony sales surge certainly rocketed the console up, but the next mountain is one that has stood firm for the last few years and will be tougher to climb than all the PS3's previous hurdles - this mountain is Mount Wii. Following the latest figures, it seems that the PS3 may have gotten slightly ahead of the Wii in terms of sales in Japan for the year.

Japan hardware sales from January 4th to Oct 24th, 2009:
  • Wii: 1,012,924
  • PS3: 1,006,810
  • Xbox 360: 284,943

Estimates for next week's sales charts, January 4th to Nov 1st, 2009:
  • PS3: 1,044,310
  • Wii: 1,038,924
  • Xbox 360: 294,943

If these estimates are correct, then the PS3 may have really gotten ahead of the Wii in Japan for the year. This would be another bad first for the Wii - the first time it would not come out on top on yearly sales.

 » Hmmm

Good too know.

Now hoping that Nintendo get their act together.

Going by what Iwata said, theres a good possibility of that happening. :D

 » hmm

looking at the sales, it doesnt look like the wii needs the most "getting it together"

   Re: ISOHaven - 2009-11-03
 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

Wii - 55,000,000
PS3 - 25,750,000

I agree, what exactly does Nintendo need to "get together"? LOL

   Re: lolwut? - 2009-11-03
 » @ISOHaven

What nintendo needs to get together is release more games with actual substance. They have only released a handful of actually good fun games since the wii has been out. I love the wii and all, but theres no more fun games for it anymore. Its more of a scam designed to profit off the bad waggle controls that it has.

I have to agree with ISOHaven and narutosaiyan. Seriously, Nintendo doesn't have to do anything. They do release games....for kids. All I expected to play from Wii was Zelda, Madworld, Mario and Metroid anyways.

 » I was actually talking

about 360...i mean its selling nearly1/4 of what the other consoles are. thats laughable. ps3 is just picking up speed and wii sales are crazy high even when they are "seeing a decline" Is M$ so focused on the us? or are people here the only idiots in the world that buy so many 360s?
or is the cycle for the 360 nearing its end and 720 is around the corner? Thats what i wanna know

   Re: Master Chef - 2009-11-03
 » lol @ narutosaiyan

Maybe you need to look up the other numbers to get the big picture, no sh*t MS is focused on the US, Nintendo and Sony are as well for the most part. The Wii has sold 8 million of its 55 million total in Japan, and only 1 million this year... Compared to 25 million in the US so far. Not sure how many it sold this year in the US but it's waaay higher than 1 million. The 360 has sold 1 million of its 32 million total in Japan. Japan is not important...

   Re: narutosaiyan - 2009-11-04
 » japan is not imoprtant?

only an idiot would say that. its like saying the us is the most important *****ing nation in the universe... nothing else is better 360 rules. i said this when ps3 came out n ill say it again. 360 will be last in the console war. 360 is a cheap piece of crap that breaks down. n m$ have continued to prove they are greedy and dont give a ***** about their customers. If wii or ps3 sell well in japan and europe that means the us is full of idiots who buy ***** products. 360 has only sold well because of its head start. if u compare it to ps3 year to year ps3 has been doing way better, and will soon surpass 360 sales which are mostly based on their ***** failure rate

   Re: DXcellence - 2009-11-04
 » narutosayian+fanboy much

Wow firstly the 360 doesn't make sales from the failrate, retard. Consoles that were given because of rrod aren't counted, dude. Only purchased consoles count

The warranty from MS is waaay better than sony's warranty. If your console gets rrod(if its within 3 years of purchase) you get a free xbox, free 1 month live, and shipping's free. Hmm should i start on sony's warranty process XD

And yes japan is not really important. Wow the 360 isn't on top in japan -_- no *****ing *****. Japan isn't the main marketing place.

bit stupid you calling someone a retard when you think like one.

 » @DXcellene

You need to STFU and know the facts, and of course three years of warranty is better than one, just like a lower failure rate is better than a higher one.Of course MS had to do the three year cover, I guess some of you forgot that MS was getting sued for the RROD? If it weren't for a LAW SUIT then you would of been given the cold shoulder like any money making businesses do. I'm NOT trying to justify the Sony warranty price or anything, just reminding you of the truth.

@DXcellence: While it's true exchanged Xbox 360's are not counted, you shouldn't forget that some people buy the console new instead of sending it in. Yes, I know that is stupid, but you know, a lot of People ARE stupid. Additionally, The extended guarantee was introduced in 2007, two years AFTER the launch of the box. So all people who bought a new box instead of the expensive repair ARE counted. I wouldn't say that's much, but IMHO at least 1 to 2 million 360's.

PS: I can't believe an article about PS3 and Wii turned into a fanboy war between X360 and PS3...

   Re: ISOHaven - 2009-11-04
 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

The only reason MS's warranty is higher is because of a class action lawsuit. The failure rate of that POS console is so high the warranty NEEDS to be longer then 1 year.

I hope they got that crap under control. But we wont know for sure until another year passes.

@ lolwut - That is certainly YOUR opinion. You are entitled to it. But just realize that over 55 MILLION PEOPLE disagree with you.

I know people that bought a Wii for nothing more then Wii Sports. Not everyone wants what you want.

» " But just realize that over 55 MILLION PEOPLE disagree with you."

How much of those 55 million think the same way he does? I'm one...that is the question

   Re: ISOHaven - 2009-11-04
 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

What does it matter? You bought the console and you liked it. New games are coming. If you bought the console and you didn't like it then sell it and get most of your money back if not MORE.

If you bought the console today and do not like (can't get your money back) it then you are an idiot for buying it. Consider this a LESSON LEARNED in buying consumer products.

   Re: Lazyboy256 - 2009-11-07
» But what does it matter?

You can enjoy the console, while also wishing it had more to push it forward. I've been through LoZ: TP, SMG (both Mario and Luigi), have nearly MP3: Corruption done (rented it), had a blast with SSBB, and I still play MoH: H2 on a daily basis. Who's to say I don't enjoy it? Yeah, I see upcoming games like SMG2 and NSMB (and I'm looking forward to that new Metroid game being developed) coming out, but I'm still wishing Nintendo could have a more expanded list of games to look forward to! Either way, to say 55 million disagree with him....*shrugs*

and...
"If you bought the console and you didn't like it then sell it and get most of your money back if not MORE.

If you bought the console today and do not like (can't get your money back)."
That's a little confusing. Do you mean that you could get your money back if you bought the console in the past? (only see present in both) If not, that means someone would be caught in a paradox of getting money and not getting money! WHOA!!! +p

   Re: ISOHaven - 2009-11-09
 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

What I meant was, if you were someone that bought it 2 years ago and didn't like it and tried to sell it 2 years ago, you could get MORE money for it. I bought and sold a few Wii consoles and made some money. Even used consoles went for more then retail if in good condition.

If you're someone who bought it today and doesn't like it...good luck getting your money back for a used system. Stores usually have stock now.

 » Hmm....

But even if the Wii sold nothing for a year it would still be ahead of most of the consoles. Btw i didn't calculate it and i just guessed.

But you get my point, Wii at this moment in time, is leading by miles but the PS3 is covering meters.

If Sony wants to get ahead, they should think about buying a few developers off.

BTW Im a PS3 biased person, but i have to sometimes give a fair view or ill get unhappy faces :D

 » Wi HD

If there really is a Wii HD, the Wii sales will most likely jump again in 2010.. They can't expect to keep selling Wii's when the other consoles are so much better. But the wii is getting a few more good games too... we'll see.

   by MagilsugaM - 2009-11-05
» Wii hd will probably compete with the ps3 and the motion controller together with natal!

Also i think that in the end natal will *****ing fail cuz the stuff it has is already posible with playstation eye except the zcam which will be fixed by the accelerometer on the remote and the sensor to detect the distance on space. Well that's all i end the fanboy war!!!
