Capcom announced today that it has successfully shipped a total of one million Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition copies worldwide making the Nintendo Wii game one of the most successful video games on the platform today. This brings the total sales for the Resident Evil video game franchise up to 33 million since it first came out back in 1996.

The Wii edition of Resident Evil 4 is actually remake of one originally released on Nintendo GameCube and PlayStation 2. The story revolves around Raccoon City incident survivor Leon Kennedy and his quest to rescue the president's daughter Ashley Gramm. Other returning characters in this iteration include Ada Wong and Jack Krauser.

Capcom added that the success of Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition lies in the already installed fan base of the series. Aside from attracting former players, the use of motion-sensing controllers also provided a new dimension that made the new gamers curious about this title.

I'm glad that RE4 is so successful, it's a outstanding game. Even though it is a port, it doesn't really matter. I can play this game, Zelda OoT, Mario 64 over and over again. Hopefully Capcom will realize that there is a market on the Wii that is definitely into these games, and not just Carnival games. Same goes for every other developer who thinks that the Wii is only for kids and old folks!! Congrats Capcom! Now let's see some other stellar titles next year!
