Obama told the Austin crowd that they should try to recruit their friends to support his campaign. "I want you to tell them, 'It's time for you to turn off the TV and stop playing Game Boy,'" Obama said. "We've got work to do." |

haha he can ban gameboys if he wants to. ill just play the emulator.from now on we need to call our PSPs a job!
i call prx loading >_>
I didn't read anywhere where it said senator Obama wanted to ban GameBoys.
Thanks so much for not saying "First post"... I hate the jackasses that do that. >_>
Wasn't there some president once who was asked in a press conference if there was anything that he didn't like and he replied, "eating my broccolli" and it was clearly a joke, everyone knew it was. But then all of the broccolli industries freaked out and said he was a terrible person and was trying to make children not eat their vegetables stuff. That's what all you guys are doing when you complain about this. He's clearly not saying that videogames are the downfall of the country, he's just saying get off your lazy asses and get involved in the world. And QJ I've gotta say, that whole DS lite PSP instead of Gameboy comment you had made me die a little bit on the inside. He just said Gameboy because that's the far better known name for videogames. And what are the odds guy who got the first post, your post was terrible. I almost cried at how terrible your emulator joke is.
Get off here if you don't enjoy playing games. A lot of people don't like your reasoning. So you are saying that if you were at a party with your friends and a group of snobs came by, you would insult your friends to make the snobs think you are cool. Go blow wind on another site if you are not for freedom of living the way you want.
Dude I've been a loyal QJ reader since I first got my PSP way back in 2005 when nobody even knew what a PSP was. I like both videogames and this website. I just didn't like this particular post. Obama's a pimp. He didn't mean anything bad by what the comment he made. That's all I wanted to say. Don't freak out, chuckingrocksatspaceships.
"Back in 2005 when nobody even knew what a PSP was."
HAHAHAHAHA! That seriously just made my day. Thanks for the laugh, man.
@what are the odds, nice comeback. Emulators, lol
@hartleshc, he was joking. it's illegal to ban something harmless. Even if something harmless is banned, and enough people like it, it will be legalized again. Think prohibition.
@kohaku, you said first post yourself!!! And, also, even though he didn't say first post, he did say, "lol w00t 1st jump". But, unfortunately, that won't catch on, since there's no public proof that he did in fact do the first jump. Also, 1st posters aren't jackasses. They do it to make people like you flame them. lol. Besides, I think you're just jealous that you can't post first. Don't worry, just keep hitting refresh, and you'll make it one day.
@everyone, when he says gameboy, he's just using the "general term". Gameboys became so popular that n00bs refer to any handheld now as a gameboy. For example, people at work make xeroxs on our HP printer/scanner.... People use kleenexs to wipe their noses when the boxes obviously say "cottenelle". People at wendy's sometimes order a double meat whopper. you get the idea, when something is famous, it becomes the name for the whole industry. Get it? No?! Well, think of it this way, if the atari lynx, or the sega game gear had reached the popularity of the gameboy, our psps would've been referred to as lynxes or gamegears by adults. Just like back when pokemon was cool: when digimon came out, we started playing digimon cards at school. There was a no "pokemon cards" rule at school, so we assume digimon was ok. of course, the noobish teachers confiscated our cards anyway (and probably gave them to their children). lol.
and finally @myself: you are such a geek.
If someone is going to insult us by claiming video games are destroying the foundation of today's society and all that other nonsense people keep throwing out, the least they could do is drum up a little research. Then again, if they actually did that, they'd just be proving themselves to be as retarded as we all know them to be already.
thx for the 2 cents.....$1 more and i can go get a sandwhich
Some of us don't consider playing video games as serious as deciding the fate of the country. I think that is what he meant. It is like when I don't play video games because I have school work to do or a job to be doing. If I read into your message like that, it would let me know that you like making fun of handicapped people instead of people who could help being stupid. (IE. Retarded people)
ok obama lost my vote. Hilary FTW
Obama doesn't seem to be bashing video games. Hillary on the other hand, does.
and how many parents think their kids are just 'playing game boy'. do they really know its a PSP or a DS Lite? nope. my mom always thought it was gameboy and nintendo, no matter what console it actually was. its no different than today.
and he's obvoiusly playing his right wing card with this line. wants to get america's youth out there working, breeding hardworking self sustaining individuals. its how he got elected in illinois, and he's just playing his cards to get into voters minds.
remember that nothing politicians say is ever true. they say the right thing to get you to check their name in november.
I think that the Media took this the wrong way... they love to spin words and I think this is one example.
Obama pulling a "right wing" card???
What are you talking about?
The statement was meant to coarse the pubic to get more involved at a more grassroots level. Instead of simply sitting infront of a television, or handheld. He used the word GameBoy because it has become a general noun for handheld video game systems *which you stated*.
I dont understand how you got any of your other opinions from the article.
the 'right wing' card IS grassroots. hard working, blue collar, and resiliant to innovation and technology. many conservatives dont like how america's youth sit for hours on end indulging themselves in video games. whether that is actually good or bad has never been proven, but it is the mentality of conservative right wing voters that video games are evil. obama is the most republican democrat i've ever seen, and that is what got him elected in illinois, and that is what will get him elected in 2008.
"wants to get america's youth out there working, breeding hardworking self sustaining individuals."
Wow, are you stupid? Uh, hello DUH!! You know, before video games and other distracting media devices were invented, young men (and women) actually made USE of their day!! A durka durka durka durrr sorry that he didn`t say "Youth, stay at home and play your PSP. Let us adults do everything. And when you become adults, *****, keep playing your PSPs and be lazy and merry!".
Jeez kid, you`re either real dumb or real lazy.
Yeah I know what you mean. My mom used to call every system I used to own an Atari. When nintendo came out she'll call it gameboy. When Playstation came out, everything is called a Playstation. No makes me laugh harder then my parents.
Although I am a little sick when I ever hear politicians use games in their topics, I'm not sure whether he is using them to get on people's good side and show that he cares or its so that he can "play with their emotions".
If they really want us to care about them, then they need to stop telling us whats good for us and what we should be doing, because we have a brain and can think for ourselves. A politician's job is to serve our interests, and they need to stop waisting our time and tax money.
No wonder people's involvement with politics has been declining in the past years. People probably didn't want to keep on seeing politicians involved in their every day life and don't want others to tell them what to do and what they shouldn't do. We need someone protects our freedoms and our right to live ever day the way we want to.
I think the 'Gameboy' statement speaks volumes about what a phoney (like most of the Republicrats) Obama is. Here's another ultra-rich aristocrat trying to appear connected to the general populace by throwing-in popular culture catch-words that someone fed him because he hasn't a clue to how real people live. Think about it: if it were you running a campaign, would you insult people en mass who have taken up with what has become an accepted passtime for BOTH adults and children? I think I'd be saying instead, "Come out in the streets and help my campaign, and bring your PSP's and DS's along!" Having done campaign support years back for an independent candidate, there is definitely down time where having had something like the PSP while waiting or drumming up signatures at the fairgrounds might have been nice to have around. For Obama's speech writers, this is just an easy appeal to the old farts in the crowd to do the usual generational divide and get the elders on his side. Note: I'm saying this as an adult not too many years younger than this clown. His charade of sincerity is nothing new.
Go to hell OBAMA ! - Were lazy american slackers and proud.
stfu you damn terrorist. i'll play psp whenever i want
Barak is black dipsh*t, maybe u should stop playin ur psp if u didnt know sumthing as simple as dat
i guess you don't remember that CNN typo: "Where's Obama?". And I guess you don't watch real TV
Meh, I Am Canadian :P
Canada FTW! lol
I have nothing against America at all though.
Hello Barack Obama,
If u r reading this, am a Blk African American like yourself. But Hillary Rodham Clinton is the person i'm voting 4. 2b the next President of the U.S. of America. W/that have a Gud day.
The previous post was a fine example of internet ebonics.
Fine example indeed it even stole the period off this sentence
Racist. (u 2)
Wow, do you guys even read the article? I'm also wondering what the average IQ of a qj poster is....
He was talking to adults, adults think videogames are "a waste of time"...and really, they are. They are just entertainment and nothing more, it's not like gaming is a way of life. You can't create anything while playing a game, and your life pretty much comes to a halt.
That said, he won't ban gameboys...and maybe some of the more fanatic gamers should heed his words, in fact, maybe some of the posters on his thread should. Maybe if you guys took your eyes off your gameboy(or psp), you'd see how stupid you look, lol.
{ps: I do play gameboy(and psp)}
The readers here seemed to understand the article just fine. Most of us want to state our opinions on Mr. Barak a little further than the whats said in the article itself. You on the otherhand just want to come off like you are the bearer of all knowledge and without your insight we would be all lost. Will We?
*FOR FUN SOME QUOTES FROM YOUR POST.*
*He was talking to adults - Was he!
*adults think videogames are "a waste of time" - Do they!
*You can't create anything while playing a game - Can't I!
* Maybe if you guys took your eyes off your gameboy(or psp) - Sir Sir thats psychically impossible. Video games don't have eyes.
*you'd see how stupid you look, lol. - hahaha you'd see it, you'd see it.
*{ps: I do play gameboy(and psp)} - you're a douche.
Nothing personal. I'm just a hole, on the rag, on a bad day, probably a little drunk. I'm not a mean person. I'm usually the one who chimes with "Oh you guys" when people are making n*gger jokes or sodmizing puppies with toothpicks.
Off to rehab now.
Yes, I also believe adults like to be criticised because he DID say "It's time for you to turn off the TV"...or maybe just children watch TV? -.-
he should watch his words if he wants to get our votes.
I think any mature person will know he is right...
And HOLE....
Yes it was aimed at adults - Children can't vote !
And no you can't create anything(other then gas) while playing vids - 2 hands and brain engaged, please cite an example of something you actually create while playing vids....
Don't get me wrong, I play a *****load of vids(probably too much), but it doesn't mean i'm blind to the truth.
anybody who bases their vote on video games doesn't deserve to vote in the first place
" Hello Barack Obama,
If u r reading this, am a Blk African American like yourself. But Hillary Rodham Clinton is the person i'm voting 4. 2b the next President of the U.S. of America. W/that have a Gud day."
Isn't Hillary the one always giving speeches against video games and having meetings with jack thompson and *****? She doesn't sound like a "gud" choice either.
My mom thinks when i play example GC that i play Playstation and when i play something handheld console she thinks i play Gameboy. :S
"You whipper-snappers need to put down your...abacuses and your tiddlywinks and get out there and vote."
Ok guys, be honest.... how many times were you playing PSP when you should be doing something?
>.> thing is freaking addicting... Like candy or strippers.
HE ISNT BLACK!!! HE IS AFRICAN AND MIXED WITH ASIAN!!!
that makes him black. Tiger woods is black also.
There is notthing wrong with calling him black.
What would be wrong is calling him african american if he DID NOT have african blood in him.
I think its more politically correct to call blacks black...instead of "african american" as now ALL blacks are african and not all africans are black.
Barack Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. (born in Alego, a village in Nyanza Province, Kenya) and Ann Dunham (born in Wichita, Kansas). His parents met while both were attending the East-West Center of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where his father was enrolled as a foreign student.
His mom was white, not Asian. You're thinking of Tiger Woods.
I'm looking at all the candidates. I wouldn't vote for Hillary even though it would be funny to see Bill as the FIRST first man. She has done some overspending and been making some more conservative choices recently as well as making few notable accomplishments in my eyes over her career. My hopes are aligned with Obama for pres with Clinton for vice to be the top pick for the Democrats. It seems like a near sure win. The real issue is that they are both just Senators with little knowledge to get things done. I think that the two of them together like that would be a hell of a combination though. P.S. Hillary hasn't even filed FEC with the Democratic party yet as I know.
John McCain though, is a hell of a candidate to run against. It is a good thing that the republicans have recently lost favor from Bush for the Democratic Party. He is called a "maverick" by the media because he goes against his own party if he wishes. That makes him special in more ways then one and could be a good thing or bad thing. We can't have any arguments over trivial things when stuff needs to get done and that is why we have a two party system when you get to the roots.
Every other candidate is just a runoff catcher for the people that want to be able to say they voted and things would have been better if their candidate had won to me. Edwards, Dean, Sharpton, Giuliani, all of them. Vote for one of them if your too upset to leave your psp or ds for a second to do some research.
Agreed on the Democratic candidates. Not sure what's going on with the Republicans. So far we've got McCain the hypocrite (keynote speaker at graduation for a college run by someone he previously called an "agent of intolerance"), Romney the flip-flopper (claimed to be more pro-gay-rights than Ted Kennedy, used to support freedom of choice, now entirely anti-gay-marriage and pro-life), Giuliani the divorcee who holds almost no views in common with the other Republicans, and... who else??
KEEP THE CHANGE
Racist people are senseless and ignorant.
