Barack Obama, in a campaign video, called for Americans to put down their Wiimotes and help make history. This relatively rare reference to a specific gaming device during a presidential campaign is perhaps a testament of how mainstream gaming has become in recent years. Everyone knows the Wiimote, right?
The full video invites Obama supporters to take the day off to help with the campaign come November 4th, arguing that history cannot be made while in the office, on the couch or playing Wii (a fact to which my win-loss ratio in Super Smash Bros disagrees) - or the Xbox 360 or the PS3, for that matter. I agree with Obama: It's probably a good idea to put down the Wiimote on that day. That's Resistance 2's release date. On a more serious note, though, this isn't the first time the Obama campaign touched on the gaming industry, as he had previously bought digital ad space in Burnout Paradise (PS3, Xbox 360). In the past, he's also asked that parents “turn off the television, turn off the video games” and take more responsibility with their children. See, according to the elite, government has a flaw, it is potentially democratic. In theory, the people own the government. The people don't own Rupert Murdoch's News Corp, or Walt Disney, or Microsoft, etc. Now, is socialism 'redistributing the wealth'? Maybe, but our own economy already does redistribute the wealth, upwards towards those that are already rich. Why do people like Obama so much? Because he isn't John McCain. McCain talks a big game, but if you look at his proposals on paper, he is promising Bush Mark III. If you like infinite oil wars, government spying on citizens, taxes on your health insurance, total ecological destruction, outings of CIA agents in retaliation, stealings of elections, a government that works against you, then go ahead and vote for McCain. FACT - Obama got RICH off the housing collapse. THAT IS FACT. He got TONS O MONEY from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. He benefited from millions of Americans that lost their ass.
