The Wii and the DS are the current consoles of Nintendo - Image 1

It's a common occurrence for prices of game consoles to drop after some time. There are times, however, when a console manufacturer will opt not to cut the console's price. Such seems to be the case with Nintendo.

According to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, the company has no plans to lower the prices of either the Wii or the DS this year. As Iwata put it: "Our earnings projection for the year is not based on hardware price cuts, and I don't think we are going to need them."

Given Nintendo's market performance lately, Iwata's apparent confidence in the company's two current consoles is understandable. For one thing, Nintendo has not changed the selling price of the Wii in Japan (JPY¥ 25,000 or approximately US$ 239) since the console's launch.
