Nintendo plans on expanding Virtual Console - Image 1 Nintendo has given word signifying plans of expanding the Wii Virtual Console service by adding more games available for download. Furthermore, these new additions will not be re-releases but brand new titles.

This move is expected to start next year, with the game and console publisher to focus on educational and puzzle games initially. Nintendo plans to eventually produce games in other genres with larger production values as well.

The company also had some good news for aspiring game developers. In addition to producing their own games, the company plans on acting as a publisher for games from smaller developers as well.

All the games are expected to be sold for about US$ 8 each, making it well within the reach of the average gamer. Hopefully, Nintendo will be following this up with a data storage device for the system considering the amount of stuff they'll be churning out.

Why dont nintendo just put all the old Nintendo games (NES, SNES, N64) up on the their store. Why only release a handful at a time?!?

They have to recompile the game for the Wii, which isn't easy.

Nintendo does not do this because of consumer psychology theories.....

If they release games slowly over time people are far more likely to purchase a game here or there not caring about the cost of a small purchase versus purchasing several games at once.

For example- say you like 10 games, and nintendo released all of the games at once. If the games are $10 each you may say- $100.00 is too much to pay for all of those games.....I think I will only buy 2 or 3 games.

If they stagger the release dates,...every month or so you may be willing to pay $10 and over the course of a year or two a total of $100- even though you would not spend the $100 at once.

The only news it gave us was the $8 price range.

They have emulators for the Wii, they don't re-compile it from scratch I think... Maybe they need to test them? Games like F-Zero X are tricky to run even on the best PC emulators...
