Nintendo of America Ltd.has been ordered to pay US$ 21 million to Texas-based Anascape Ltd. for infringing on a patent with the design of the Wii Classic, the WaveBird, and the Gamecube controller. This marks the resolution of a case which was originally filed in 2006.

Charlie Scibetta, a spokesman for Nintendo, said that they were going to seek an appeal to reduce the payment by a significant amount. Interestingly enough, he also pointed out that Nintendo was very pleased when no infringement was found for the motion-sensing technology of the Wiimote and Nunchuk controller.

Previously, Anascape also sued Microsoft for patent infringement over game controllers although the two settled out of court even before the trial took place.  Details on this settlement weren't revealed though, so we can't say how much the company paid Anascape Ltd.
