Last year, Nintendo set a goal for itself to sell four million units of their next gen Wii videogame console by the end of 2006. Thanks to high demand and the buzz surrounding the console, Nintendo was able to meet that goal.

Today, we came upon a post on WiiLoaded.com reporting that Nintendo has met their new task of selling six million Wiis by the end of the fiscal year, so of course we wanted to check it out. The fiscal year ends on March 31, 2007, and sure enough, as of this writing, the Wii has already sold about 6.25 million units around the world.

The most number of Wiis sold is in the Americas, with 2.49 million. Japan is in second place with 2 million, and 1.76 million Wiis have been sold to other markets around the world. Here's the latest image of the figures from sales tracking site VGCharts.org.

Let's see how fast the Wii sells in two months when everyone dumps them in favor of the PS3. There can't be that many Ntards on this planet.

yeah... dump the wii to buy some other overpriced machine. don't mean to bash the ps3 and all.. but right now its only appeal is to the hardcore gamers. maybe in two or three years... maybe.

well basically the sales say everything... people want more from games than just graphics now... interaction is becoming a huge part in them, the PS3 does not offer that and it shows in the sales... the 360 has just been out for longer...

I've been gaming since the golden days of the NES, and while I believe it's safe to assume that I'm a "core" gamer that SONY claims to target, the PS3 holds little interest to me. More of less because I'm tired of playing the same games I've been playing for fifteen years, and since the PS3 has little that is truely "new" it doesn't realy appeal to me. I bought a PS2 recently, and by recently I mean at the same time I pre-ordered my Wii way back October(at least I think it was October). I got it cheap because I traded-in my Gamecube for $50(wasn't going to need it with the Wii anyway) and picked up Kingdom Hearts because a lot of people said it was good. So here's the question I ask myself and most people who are fairly pro-PS3: Why buy a system for $600+ when you can get relatively the same experience from one that cost $160? God of War II is hands-down one of the best games I've played all year. Why is it so good. Because it's so ridiculously over-the-top in everything it does, action, epic-ness(that's realy the seller there) and maybe not so much depth of story. No game that I've seen or played on the PS3 has come anywhere close to "must have" as God of War II, except for maybe LittleBigPlanet, but that doesn't come out until something like next year. So yeah, I guess when it comes down to it, I'll use the PS2 whenever I want to go back to gaming the way it always has been, the Wii when I want to play something orriginal as well as old school thanks the the Virtual Console, and I suppose that if I want to go to HD visuals I'll get a 360 since it's visualy almost as good as the PS3 and it's like $200 cheaper here in Canada. Besides, who doesn't want Gears of War? That game is just too damn good.

» remember the good ol' days?

Remember the good old days of console wars? When it was all about the system? It's bits, colors, number of sprites on screen, size of the cartridges and all? Today it's not about the system anymore, it's all about getting personal. Not just a funny flamewar but plain insults. It's times like these when I wish for a moron filter just like adblock does for advertisements. It's sad, stupid and annoying.

And don't mess with nintendo fanboys, they have trained a lot with Wii Sports so you will fail in a fist fight. ;)

Take it easy people! And have a good time on a trip down memory lane with the 1990 world of nintendo catalog:
