Halo 3 - Image 1Remember Nintendo UK boss' David Yarnton's recent speech about Nintendo still catering to the hardcore set? The speech appears to have raised some hackles, particularly this part (in verbatim):

For all the recent talk of record breaking entertainment launches, it might just be that the defining and most influential video game of this generation is a simple game of tennis that the whole family can gather around and play and enjoy together.

Some people thought that "record breaking entertainment launches" quote is a dig aimed at Bungie Studios' wildly-popular Halo 3, which helped in Microsoft's current Xbox 360 hardware sales jump (as shown by the NPD group in their recent hardware sales chart).

However, Nintendo clarified that Yarnton did not refer to any specific game in his speech, especially not Bungie Studios' opus. " We were merely putting Wii Sports into a wider cultural context alongside cinema, books and TV," said a Nintendo spokesperson, adding that they consider the Halo games as indispensable to the gaming industry.

Well, that certainly helped in stopping a console war storm before it even started...for now, at least.

Wow, I didn't know people were so sensitive!

Yes a crappy, half assed tennis minigame part of many other unimpressive minigames featuring sub par N64 graphics stick figures that you can't move is much better than Halo. Maybe he thinks so because it "sold" over 11 million copies? Or maybe it's because it won many awards in the BFTA (even in completely irrelevent categories like strategy and simulation) due to bribes from Nintendo.

My god, the N64 version of Mario Tennis was better than that crap, and it was released 10 years earlier with better graphics on a much older (and better) system! I still use my N64 to this day, it reminds me when Nintendo actually tried to make a competitive product, not just creative marketing a turd console.

Yep, people are!

I merely like pointing out how stupid the things Nintendo reps say, because well, they make no sense. I really enjoy it.

I know playing Wii sports influenced me! I must let the entire world know Nintendo is ripping you off because that game took almost no effort or money to make and it isn't fun at all!

Well you are misunderstaning the article as well. Nintendo said that they were "Not" talking about Halo, but yet in your post you completely bash Wii Sports and talk about Halo's superiority.

Also the article you posted is not fact, and is the opinion of two dudes from a podcast. So, before you go on your "Anti-Wii Sports" crusade, could you also let the "entire world" know this? Because if opinions of an analyst were fact, then the Nintendo Wii would have only sold 2 million consoles right now instead of 13 million.

I've had my Wii for almost a year and I haven't played it in months. I wish I hadn't of bought it because the games are really boring and geared towards young children and retarded people (that was a joke). You guys are right when you say Nintendo doesn't try because they don't. I thought they would be able to come out with some interesting first-person-shooters but the technology in the system is so limited all they produce is crap.
