WiiInternet forums have become a powerful tool for research and speculations nowadays. So with that stated, it isn't surprising that rumors have been hitting an internet forum about a lot of Wii matters.

Whether they have reliable sources or they have really creative imaginations, is something we do not know, but I am sure that it isn't going to take a long time before we know if this forum entries are real or make-believe thanks to E3.

So what actually came up in the said forum? Well it all started with a "I just picked up the EGM issue with Zelda on the cover that I spoke about in the Nintendo conference...There are new Zelda shots, looks GREAT. There's also pics of monkey ball, tony hawk, rayman and red steel. Reading now, impressions later."

It seems that that is where everything started, there were some who said that the Wii will sport a $249 price tag; then something came up about the virtual consoler and the 3D controller. There was one who even said that  the Wii would have an "Always Online" feature which means that even if the console is off, it would still be online, and then there was the statement about the Wii controller having built-in speakers. Now that's a lot of wishful thinkings for gamers.

In a recent Forbes article titled "Show, Don't Tell", SEGA Vice President of Marketing Scott Steinberg predicted Nintendo's next console Wii will launch at a price lower than 200 dollars (U.S.).

Steinberg said gamers can bet on Wii arriving with a price point quite lower than that of competitor consoles due to relatively simpler hardware. He stressed that manufacturing volume and not so much price is the concern at the moment, at least for SEGA. "It is critical to our business planning to know how many units will be available in North America," Steinberg said.

Nintendo of America's Senior Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Communication George Harrison commented on Wii's price point to Forbes, as well. "Now that our competitors have put their cards on the table we think we can wait to set the price of the Wii," Harrison said. "Typically, pricing for a console launching in the fall won't be announced until August or September. We were surprised Sony said it [Monday] night."

Recently, Electronic Gaming Monthly published information revealing the Wii's official price point as 0. However, in the wake of other E3 announcements, much of that information - such as the magazine's statements that Metroid Prime 3 would ship in 2007 and Super Smash Bros. Brawl will arrive in the fall - has been proven false (happens to be the opposite of EGM's claims).

The Forbes article can be viewed here.

The Wiire will keep you updated as to the official price of Nintendo's next console.

 » confirmed already...

I don't mean to be a buzzkill... But Nintendo already stated the "Always On" feature... Where the Wii will be in Stand By mode when turned off... And not actually turn off.... Being always connected... Also Nintedo already announced the speaker on the Wiimote... I believe its placed below the d-pad or (A) button Gamespot said... The only thing thats a rumor in the article is basically the $250 price tag.... But I do think this could be the price.. I have speculated for awhile now that the price would be $250... Lets hope that Forbes is right.... And I am beginning to not believe the Validity of anything EGM has to say....

 » @confirmed

also, nintendo had also confirmed 2 speakers (in both "parts" of the controller).
this was also shown specifically when zelda was played on the stage (remember the arrow zipping off the bow?).

if nintendo is clever they will put a extremely low pricetag on the wii to reach many people (imho it should be around the normal pricetag of a mid-range dvd player, around 100€), and charge and make profit from the online contentproviding (retrogames for example) and additional hardware (special controller for retro games, lightgun attachment, ...).

with such a low pricetag they will soon get the big ones (ms and sony) into big trouble as they will have to lower their prices to compete, ending far below development cost.

the design of the wii has propably cost nintendo only a fraction of the devosts sony or ms had for their consoles... so that could really be a pretty promising moove for them.

i am looking forward to the battle which comes this fall... and honestly i hope nintendo can fullfil the promises they made. this could change the game market drastically for the future... if they do it right.

» why is everyone so late?

I can't believe people are acting like these are rumors. During the Nintendo press conference on Tuesday, Nintendo showed the speaker SEVERAL times in pictures and trailers. They also talked about it when they were playing Zelda. Not to mention that IGN mentioned it about three days before Nintendo even said it.

The always on thing was also mentioned during the conference. It's called "Wii Connect 24". Iwata-san said that, like the DS, Wii could go into a standby mode running on as little power as a miniature lightbulb. He said that it'd still be connected and developers could push things like new maps, vehicles or weapons to you while you slept.

He also said simpler things like your friends visiting your village in Animal Crossing and leaving you notes or gifts while you were out.

As for the price, Reggie Fils-Aime said it was in their best interest to wait just a little longer to reveal that. Personally, I wouldn't mind spending $300 for this console. But I feel that a $250 price range is about perfect. But I could see it going as low as $200. I don't think Nintendo would sell it for $100 bucks when the Gamecube still costs $80 and the DS Lite is $150, that'd be just dumb.

 » 360

If I have to pay $250 for a Wii, then I just as well get a next gen console for $300. The only way the Wii is going to sell is if they sell it for $100. They thing plays old crapy graphics. Nintendo, your a joke.

360 is going to kick. PS3 is too expensive and Wii just sucks. 360 is going to have the best game ever!!!! HALO 3!!!! All you Nintendo fanboys can have your fun playing with your Wii. While I'll be shooting the crap out of guys with Halo! =) You Nintendo people need to get a life.

   by Hanus35 - 2006-05-11
 » WTF...

lol... Ok.... We need to get a life.... The Xbox Shipped faulty... Yeah it has some good games... But Halo Aint coming out for another year an a half... I am not a Wii fanboy... But the Wii is gonna flood the market this Q4.... I have a 360... And I also think its great... But from what I have seen from the PS3 and the Wii... The 360 has no grasp on the Next-Gen... Other then Halo3 and Gears of War... And the HD-DVD drive... The 360 isn't really doing anything to special... This is coming from a person who is buying all 3 because all 3 are great... but in my opinion... The Wii and PS3 are gonna demolish the 360 in sales.... Sorry for the buzzkill man... But be a little more openminded.... And try not to diss stuff you probably haven't even bother to look at...

 » Wow.

You're a sad, poor, and lonely individual #9

"You nintendo people need to get a life...while I'm shooting the "crap" out of you guys in halo 3...""

I am not going to argue against anything you said (the fanboy remark, nintendo being a joke, the fact that you seem to think that a single game is worth an entire system, or the idea that graphics are what makes a good game) because there is no arguing with people like you.

Simply amazing that people like you are given the right to have opinions let alone voice them on the internet

Is the best and worst thing there is. it is best because you can stay in touch, all the time. It is worst because of fanboy ass holes like #9, who have some sort of 'domination' complex and love to flame people because of what consoles they buy, because they have NO INFLUENCE in real life over people. Grow up and get a job ass hole, nobody likes you.

10, your not a bad person, you just have a lot of money to buy all three systems. If I was rich I would buy crap too.

11 and 12, you guys are Wii fanboys that go posting just like I am on the 360 fan sites. I'm just here to let you two know what a big mistake you made picking a crappy system to support.

Back on topic.. are you guys really ok purchasing out dated stuff for $250? Do you guys not care about graphics? Why don't you guys just play SNES or Genesis? Never mind... now I understand, you guys are the guys that hate good graphics and want 2D games all to come back. Your buying a Wii so that you can play are your loved NES and SNES games that are hard to look at let alone play.

It doesn't sound like I'm going to convince you guys. Trust me, the Wii will end up like the Gamecube; old and dumb.

 » Attn: Your Wii Sucks

Did you know that even if you say the same thing over and over and over, it doesn't make that statement anymore true... Enjoy your 3rd (3rd!) installment of an already stale fps (funny, how M$ biggest announcement was not a sequel, but a sequel to a sequel) I do own a 360, but I have to tell you, the Wii has peaked my interest like none other (PS3's price tag just makes me a mere window shopper for at least the first year). Nintendo is revolutionizing how games are played. I'm really excited to get to "learn" how to play games again and I'm eager to have others "learn" with me... and the retro-crap/graphics statement, tell me why the most popular game on the 360 is Geometry Wars?? Not the "I can walk on water and raise the dead" Halo...
...Slaughter.

Number 9 and 13:

 » poor graphics?

#9/13, please, tell me how the Wii is outdated. have you been watching the trailers at all? yes nintendo says that graphics arent important, but all the footage for zelda, mario, and smash brothers seems to be saying otherwise. Red Steel? hey look, i can shoot the "crap" out of stuff too, with pretty nice graphics to boot.

and also, as long as youre going to fling around generalizations like

"now I understand, you guys are the guys that hate good graphics and want 2D games all to come back. Your buying a Wii so that you can play are your loved NES and SNES games that are hard to look at let alone play."

then allow me to throw some generalizations right back at you. youre one of the uncultured, simple minded people who is impressed by anything shiny, and dont care how horrible gameplay is as long as it looks pretty, and are ruining the market by allowing companies to produce the same drivel year after year as long as it has a new coat of paint.

and as far as "picking a crappy system" goes, how do you know? how long has the Wii been out? oh wait, it hasnt. maybe you should see how it does first before you pass judgement.

What I find most amusing is you criticizing people's lack of a life, when your biggest accomplishment in your 13-year old life is being an interent troll at qj.net. You also claimed to like the 360 and Halo, so anything else you try and argue fails entirely.

» Wii is going to BLOW!

this is very funny. Remember the Gamecube?? It had small disks. bla bla bla. It was shaped like a cube. bla bla bla. It sold for like $250 - 300. Cheap systems that are as small as a CD drive wont do good on the graphics performance end. Dont expect any type of HD type video from it. Also expandability and longevity. The gamecube died out like 2 years later when it dropped to 99 dollars. No one will want it and as soon as you realize the remote is stupid, uncomfortable, and easily breakable then you will pay $600 for a PS3.

--My name is Mikel and I am a Sony Fanboy! Oh yeah i forgot the Xbox360 blows too.

im sorry #23 but how can the 360 be in 3rd place whens its the only next gen on the market.......

also 1 more thing for all you fanboys out there when all 3 systems come out well see whats going on imo i think its gonna be a close 1 but sony will die out because of its price leaving nintendo and m$ but well see....

btw i own a 360 and im not a fanboy.

 » Misled masses

#25, Mikel, im sorry to say that your argument has holes as well. i dont have the link to the article, but theres a general misconception among most sony and microsoft fans that the gamecube didnt do well, where it actually did the best. first, it didnt debut at 250-300, it was 150, 100 dollars is a lot of difference. second, yes they may not have made as much money, but take into consideration that both the xbox and ps2 cost more than the gamecube, and the psp cost more in the DS, so yes, they made more money. but as far as units sold, nintendo was generally ahead of either by a margin of several million. and in this day and age, things arent calculated by revenue, its calculated by market share. more units sold means more people that own nintendo products. hate to break it to you sir, ninty won.

Personally I think that the NR will do just fine. I mean, come on!! Look at what they're doing!! No one has done this yet and the people will eat it up, I know I will. The PS3? I think that it'll do ok too. 360? pft. All you *****ers had and will ever have is Halo....a gaming company can't survive on that alone for very long. But yeah, they do have other games. I guess what I'm trying to say is. GET THE HELL OVER HALO.

 » Reality for a second

Know who's really going to win the next gen war? Me. Nintendo is trying to do something different and I'm all for it. They're going a different route and not trying to compete on a processing and graphics level. Now MS and Sony will have to try to make more innovative games to try to get the gamers who are all about new types of games. Hopefully this will make games better on all three systems, because honestly, there are a lot of "clone" games out there where once you play the first, the rest are the same (which is annoyingly boring).
Why are ya'll worried so much about who's going to have the greatest market share or who is going to sell the most units or who is going to win the numbers game? Do you guys all work for one of those companies? Cause if you don't, it really shouldn't matter to you. Besides, prices come down, and eventually, everyone here will be able to buy the more expensive of the consoles. Competition amongst the big three is a good thing; be glad it's there.
