It's important to know that we're not ignoring the hardcore gamer. They're still very important to us. // And Christmas alone we have already catered on the Wii with Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario Galaxy, and on DS with The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. |

Just curious, what is the actual definition of a "Hardcore Gamer"? I have heard to many definitions.
sad to say, there really isn't any clear cut definition of the term. it's something very relative and differs for every person. you can search wikipedia or urbandictionary for a general idea, but nothing is really set in stone.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term+hardcore+gamer
personally though, i often equate "hardcore gamers" as being perfectionists when trying to finish a game. 100 percent in everything - items, weapons, spells. gets the best times, knows the best combos, etc. kinda like what i always strive to do with RPGs and action-adventure games. so in that sense, i call myself a hardcore gamer. or at least, i strive to be. hehehe! ^_^
of course, it could mean different things for others. i could be wrong. my definition is skewed and limited too, based on my experiences and whatnot. what i just said is my personal belief. so don't quote me on it. ;-)
They mention 2 Wii titles, only one of which is on the market and claim they cater to hardcore gamers.
is for my definition a gamer that games more than 50 hours a week. you can pretty much see in WoW who's a casual, hardcore casual and hardcore.
Wii is by NO means a console for hardcore gamers.
I mean, the Wii isnt online yet. And playing 50 hours a week wii fit, wii sports, zelda and metroid. I mean LOOOL.
I'm having a little trouble with your logic: Your definition is a gamer that games more than 50 hours a week, and in WoW you can tell the difference between the type of players. But honestly what the heck is a "hardcore casual"? Many would consider this a hardcore game, but then again this definition doesn't really make sense if a casual gamers play it, and believe me I'm willing to bet that some do. I'm not trying to say your definition is wrong, it just proves that there is no "real" definition of this type of "gamer". The problem is that we stereotype consoles, games and people into groups, and then we fail to truely appreciate what each has to offer. I say it is better to see which has to offer rather than say "This is a casual/hardcore console, it's not for me!"
BULL SH*T YOU ARE.
hardcore...
I define myself as an ass cappin, skull crakin, knee breakin hardcore gamer. I love to shoot, fight and play fast paced and aggressive games.
By all means The wii is in fact a great system... it has such great potential.... but like I said before........ The Wii is a Ty Cob rookie card ...... adn Nintendo is the kid who sticks the card in his bike taire to make a cook sound
From the hallow promises of an online platform, with a library that has almost the same number of games as the atari jaguar. I bought a Wii and had it for a year...... and nothing but anger ......Looking at a game system collecting dust.....I felt ashamed... how can I call myself a gamer when I am not even motivated to turn it on? these were feelings that came upon me for owning a Wii.
what does the wii have in (my)terms of hardcore ?
1. red steel
2. call of duty(port)
3. scarface(port)
4. godfather(port)
5. farcry (horrible port)
6. manhunt(port)
7. metroid (halo killer w/o online?)
8. mortal kombat (port)
you see what I mean?
I know there are a few more .....
but if you are like me and love a great shooter... and playing online ...
Nintendo has already made it loud and clear that they arent for us
Nintendo completely sold out to soccer moms and non gamers this generation after losing horribly going up against the big dogs with the gamecube. Minigames are the big sellers, and it just proves true hardcore gamers (like me) don't give a rat's ass about the Wii.
Any game released on the Wii (besides the minigames) has a much better counterpart on the PS3 or XBOX 360 that looks and plays better, with online. Not to mention the 360 and PS3 do much more than play games and do it in HD for not much more money.
Metroid Prime 3 < Halo 3 and Killzone 2
Mario Galaxy < Ratchet and Clank and Tomb Raider
Smash Brothers < Virtua Fighter, Tekken, and Dead or Alive
The Wii has no decent racing games
The Wii has no RPGs
The sports games are all inferior ports
Why would a true hardcore gamer get a Wii? Maybe if they got really drunk and made an ebay impulse buy! lol!
