Nintendo Channel allows for automated transmission of non-confidential user info - Image 1Customer service seems to be taking an interesting turn as far as Nintendo is concerned. For instance, if you'd rather not go through the hassle of reporting stuff directly to the company, you can always have the new Nintendo Channel do it for you.

This is how it works: just agree to the terms and conditions stated in the "Data Sharing Settings" under the Nintendo Channel settings. Once you agree to them, the following categories of information will be sent to the company every time you start up the said channel, among others:
  • a summary of your play history ("Today's Accomplishments")
  • your Wii console settings
  • your Wii remote settings
Alternatively, you may opt to manually and anonymously share your opinions regarding various games by entering and submitting responses to questions posed by the company. The purpose of these options is for Nintendo to gather data for game recommendations and for the improvement of the company's services.

Note that Nintendo is only asking for non-personal information. All of the information that you submit via the channel will be non-identifiable and anonymous, unless you have your Wii account linked to your My Nintendo account.  For a more comprehensive listing of exactly what kind of info will be transmitted to Nintendo, just click on the source link below.

BEWARE, they are watching you! -_-

Seriously, nothing to be afraid of.The only thing they are gonna make is to collect user information, for example which games you bought, so that they can advertise you games you like.

» This is far from Spyware...

I don't understand what everybody is crying about. It just lets Nintendo know what games people like to play. If anything, all you "Wii game" haters should be happy. Now Nintendo will see all the hours spent playing, No More Heroes, Zack and Wiki, Metroid Prime 3, etc, and think, "Hey we should make more games like this...".

Cause if you think about it, all the idiots who only play Carnival games and Wii Sports probably won't even know how to hook up the Nintendo channel, so their data won't even be noticed. And anyways, you can always turn it off.

   Re: Goglu666 - 8 days ago
 » no it isn't

Your argument bring a serious point here. Nintendo is still trying to crush 3rd party support by seeing what people plays and doing exactly those games so people will buy their 1st party titles wich would be ripoffs of 3rd party games.

Sorry, but no thanks for me. I too believe in the propaganda/spy thing as Nintendo simply isn't transparent anymore. Adding notice ion their site about using 3rd party peripherals + We can disable your Wii. Anyone having Freeloader or anything else suspicious could now legally get their wii bricked by Nintendo.

They are not telling anything to anyone. The best answer we can always get from Nintendo is : I'ts a suprise (that does not come in time) or We Will See!

I'm not complaining about the channel btw, but by the principle of telling ppl that it's for their own good, where it is to better monitor us.

Re: Billie - 7 days ago
 » @Goglu

You bring up some interesting points, but I seriously doubt that Nintendo will use this monitoring to ripoff 3rd party games, if anything this could be the proof to 3rd parties that games outside the "Wii Stereotype library" can be sucessful if this information is shared.

As for the 3rd party peripherals, what console actualy encourages them? With freeloaders, Mods, etc, you are always taking a chance that it could be blocked. I mean even with the PSP there is always the potiential possibility that a firmware update could brick a system if you have something "unofficial" on it. The "It's a surprise" comment is not really anything singled out by Nintendo, but by all console manufacturers. I mean people did get banned for like on XBOX live for doing things Microsoft didn't like to their console.

Also, when have they stated that its for "our" own good to monitor us? Like I previously stated, you have a choice to be monitored, or not.

Re: Xastabus - 7 days ago
 » ...

The argument that Nintendo will use this to crush 3rd party developers doesn't hold water. Consoles live and die by their 3rd party support. Game play would get very stale if all we had were Nintendo developed titles.

As for peripherals, Nintendo consoles have always had plenty of licensed peripherals and I doubt that will be any different with Wii.
If you're doing something unlicensed to your Wii, chances are you know what you are doing voids your warranty and don't care about the consequences. One of those being that official updates may break your system or your console may be banned from using official services.
Xbox and PSP are no different. I don't have a PS3, but I'd be willing to bet the same rules apply with its services.

 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

1. This is only stat information.

2. IT DOES NOT transmit what is installed on your machine.

3. When you play homebrew it does not add to your play history.

4. This is NOT spyware because you INSTALLED IT and AGREED to it. So Freeplay, once again we find you talking nothing but BS and showing yourself being as ignorant as usual.

5. You can TURN IT OFF.

6. The collection of this information can only make the Wii better.

 » There you have it!

The official Nintendo corporate response from isoretard.

If Nintendo stole his credit card info, Miamoto himself used it to buy other companies' inventions to use on the Wii, and in turn sold the info to multiple web sites, he would still support everything they do.

If that's not being a total brainwashed moron, what is?

From the Nintendo site:
"In order to provide our customers with game recommendations and improved future services, we are asking our customers to share certain non-personal information with us about their game play and Wii console use. Please note that if you choose to share your non-personal information with Nintendo, all of the information you submit through the Nintendo Channel will be non-identifiable and anonymous unless you have linked your Wii account to your My Nintendo account."

Perfect example of a new "feature" that only helps Nintendo. Who needs Nintendo to recommend games to them? How could this possibly improve the Wii? This is clearly designed to improve MARKETING.

From the moment it launched, the Wii has not seen a single hardware upgrade. Nintendo even lied about adding a simple DVD player new Wii versions. The firmware upgrades have yet to add a single feature that's more useful to the consumer than Nintendo. Nintendo will not use this data to improve the Wii. If they really wanted to improve it, they would do it through surveys, not SPYWARE. So what if they notify you about spyware? They're still transmitting usage information and the user depends on Nintendo's honesty (try not to laugh) to keep them from sending private data.

Re: Billie - 7 days ago
 » .

"From the moment it launched, the Wii has not seen a single hardware upgrade."

Why is this a bad thing? If anything the upgrades done to other consoles with multiple SKUs has actually created more confusion with customers. I can't speak for everybody, but I myself am actually happy that there is only one Wii. Then you don't have to worry about re-buying consoles over.

 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

"The official Nintendo corporate response from isoretard."
"If Nintendo stole his credit card info"
"If that's not being a total brainwashed moron, what is?"
So, just your usual childish crap today?

"From the Nintendo site:"
What about it? Everything you just quoted supports me 100%. They "ASK" that you share and it's all anon.

"From the moment it launched, the Wii has not seen a single hardware upgrade."
The console itself, no. And? WTF is your point? With the exception of current remakes, the 360 is the only console to ever receive UPGRADES and that requires you to BUY IT ALL OVER AGAIN.

As usual, you have no point or your point is based on complete ignorance.

"Nintendo even lied about adding a simple DVD player new Wii versions."
Even though this is 100% off topic....no, they did not.

"The firmware upgrades have yet to add a single feature that's more useful to the consumer than Nintendo."
You act as if this is a requirement. Just more BS from Mr. Nonsense. Either way the Wii does not need firmware updates to add features.

MANY new features have been added to the Wii since it's release without firmware updates.

So as usual, your meaningless BS has no point.

"Nintendo will not use this data to improve the Wii."
As usual, you have no proof of your claims...

"If they really wanted to improve it, they would do it through surveys, not SPYWARE."
As was already explained to you and your buttbuddy freeplay....this is not spyware. Your attempt at spreading lies and rumors has failed once again.

"They're still transmitting usage information and the user depends on Nintendo's honesty (try not to laugh) to keep them from sending private data."
Don't trust it? TURN IT OFF. Even a moron with your preschool level education should be able to understand that.

How many times do you need to be told the same thing? How many times does your mommy have to tell you to wipe your butt well enough to keep from ruining her washing machine?

Re: Xastabus - 7 days ago
 » I'll bite...

Here's a list of new features that have been added to the Wii since it initially launched.
Weather Channel, News Channel, Internet Channel, Everybody Votes, Check Mii Out, and now the Nintendo Channel. All of these, with the exception of the Internet Channel, have been made available free of charge. That's a lot more free stuff than I've seen either Microsoft or Sony offer. So what if Nintendo hasn't changed the Wii hardware? What hardware upgrades would it need? The internal storage appears to be adequate and if you're out of space you can always delete VC titles you're not playing and redownload them later. The way I see it, Nintendo is doing a smart thing by not trying to pander to elitist gamers. Seriously, how many versions of the same console do we really need? More to the point, how many can the market bare. A perfect example is how Sony keep juggling what level of console they offer. Ok, rant over, I gotta get back to work.

Re: ISOHaven - 7 days ago
 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

Well put Xastabus!

Don't forget they added the CLOCK! :)

Nintendo has done a VERY wise thing by jam packing the Wii with the same features as the other guys at the lowest possible price point. That was the mission and so far they succedded.

Sure, some of the features aren't as "largely developed" as the other guys but look at the COST! Sure it's a pain to have to delete content just to download it again later (IF you ever do) but look at the COST!!!

Obviously, it's working!

"Nintendo has done a VERY wise thing by jam packing the Wii with the same features as the other guys at the lowest possible price point. That was the mission and so far they succedded."

What features does the Wii have that the competition also has?

Inferior low-res internet browser
Photo viewer
Basic music player

Am I forgetting something, because it seems the Wii can't do SH1T compared to the competition!

"lowest possible price point?" HA HA HA!!! It's well known Nintendo's fortunes can be traced directly to the ripoff pricing of the Wii, with over $100 profit going to Nintendo from each overpriced Wii sold!

The mission was making as much money as possible on each Wii owner, and they have gotten lucky and succeeded!

Really? People enjoy looking at 3rd grade quality Mii images other people made? I guess that can only happen with the boredom that comes with Wii ownership and resulting lack of quality games.

"Nintendo channel so Nintendo can tell you what to buy."
"No, it's not. But I guess ignorance is bliss for you!"

Spyware (ooh with permission,) game trailers, and downloadable DS demos. Yes, they're telling you what to buy and they have total control over the content. The spyware lets them know if their marketing is working.

"What features does the Wii have that the competition also has?"

You mean the late, inferior online that Nintendo finally adopted? If it's inferior, it's inferior. NOT AS GOOD. A near total lack of communication with other players, totally unnecessary friend codes, and the fewest available online enabled games is nothing to boast about. B1tching about cost again? If you're "lucky" the Wii is only $30 cheaper than the vastly superior 360.

"Am I forgetting something, because it seems the Wii can't do SH1T compared to the competition!"

Wrong again moron. All that link proves is that the weather channel doesn't work for a guy named Matt. Obviously that was a GLITCH and has since then been fixed. Ultimately it does nothing to prove me wrong.

"Really? There's people with high-speed internet that DO NOT have a computer? I know I can believe that because it's coming from isoretard."
1. I didn't say that.
2. I'm sure there are those situations. Someone owns consoles that get on the internet so they have INTERNET. Is that honestly too difficult for you to believe? Are you that stupid?
3. I said don't have a computer AVAILABLE to them. Try to use your brain and figure out situations in which that could be. I know it will be hard for you but do yourself a favor and at least try!

"Really? People enjoy looking at 3rd grade quality Mii images other people made?"
Um...yeah...did you seriously not know that? People enjoy the task of making things out of the resources they have.

Typical Mr. Nonsense douche bag comment.

"Spyware (ooh with permission,)"
Permission equals NOT spyware. Don't worry though we all know you have to go against the dictionary in order to make your BS points.

"You mean the late"
Late? That has absolutely nothing to do with this.

"inferior online that Nintendo finally adopted?"
It works. That all that matters. Plus, as Wii Mario Kart has shown us, it can evolve. So again, you lose.

"If it's inferior, it's inferior. NOT AS GOOD."
As good how? Gamers can get online and play against each other. What you are trying to show is that XBL and PSN have MORE features. More less....advantages disadvantages...those are all besides the point. Also, you failed to address "developed". I know you couldn't figure it out. I guess I hit the nail on the head with that one!

"A near total lack of communication with other players"
And? Not a requirement. This is a feature. If you want more features then buy a console with more features...DUH!!!!!

"and the fewest available online enabled games is nothing to boast about. B1tching about cost again? If you're "lucky" the Wii is only $30 cheaper than the vastly superior 360."
Oh wow, the ARCADE version!!! The most worthless 360 around. Gee, you got me there! That version was made for one reason and one reason only, to persuade people away from the Wii. Guess what? It's DIDN'T WORK!!!! HAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

"I guess I didn't forget anything since you had nothing to add but the usual insults. Man I'm a fool for being right!"
HAHAHAHA!!!! Usual insults? More hypocritical BS from Mr. Nonsense! You're a fool for thinking the Wii can't do anything.

"Even Nintendo admitted they got lucky with the Wii. No I don't feel like finding the article. You didn't even disagree with the first part! You know it's true."
Even if you did find a PRESS RELEASE of Nintendo stating as such....it was obviously a playful comment. Leave it to you to blow it up into something it was never meant to be.

If only if they get someway where I can ask Nintendo if they could expand Nintendo Wi-Fi to that of, where we can choose for open-ended communication, an alternative to the friend code system (names and such), and more online gameplay control, if say, we have our parental controls disabled. So it would be that people with parental controls off can enjoy a less restricted online experience to that of what we have now. That would be the thing that I would like to suggest to Nintendo.
And...I see that Mister Common Sense is still an ignorant idiot.

Re: ISOHaven - 6 days ago
 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

I wish they would upgrade it a little to be more compatible with other wi-fi units. At home I have to have a second Wi-fi unit just to connect the Wii. Aside from that I have never been able to connect my NDS. Every single wi-fi or router I've come across have been un-compatible. Of course most of them are WPA which kills it right there.

Re: Mister Common Sense - 4 days ago
 » .

I don't even play my DS online because of the crappy security compaitibility. One of many ways Nintendo fails. Why reduce the security of my whole network just to get the DS to work? The PS3 and PSP have great compatibility with all routers.

But yes of course to avoid being flamed by Wii-tards, I have to praise Nintendo somehow. Go Wii! Even though it sucks at everything but casual games.

Re: ISOHaven - 3 days ago
 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

Well, according to you, you're rich! Money isn't an issue. So, all you need is a second Wi-Fi unit. ~$30. You don't have to lower the security of your entire network but I wouldn't expect someone like you to understand that.

After all, you have no clue as to what you are doing and your experience can be summed up to close to none. Which is FACT based on the long list of post link I have for you.

   Re: Scarface88 - 2 days ago
 » Mister Common [insert profanity]

Why don't you just buy a USB Wi-Fi adaptor?

Besides, it's a bit unusual for someone that hates Nintendo to own a DS in the first place.

Also, I don't appreciate being called a 'Wii-tard' (a retarded Wii owner?) by someone that can't even differentiate between fact and fiction.

Re: Mister Common Sense - 1 day ago
 » .

Not all Wii owners are wii tards. Just isoretard.

The DS is better designed and more useful than the Wii. Sure the games suck, but not as bad as the Wii's. I actually bought it because it was the first decent 3D handheld. It's also reasonably priced unlike the Wii.

   Re: Scarface88 - 21 hours ago
 » @MCS

"Sure the games suck, but not as bad as the Wii's."

The DS game selection is arguably the best out there! I'm not going to diss you for not liking the DS lineup, nor am I going to flame you for not liking the Wii lineup. All I (and I think I speak for everyone) ask is that you show a little repsect for Nintendo's efforts to make great games! You can't seriously say that Zelda TP, Metroid Prime 3, Red Steel, No More Heroes, PES 2008 (sort of exclusive), Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy, Brawl and a few others aren't superb. I'm not overly impressed with what we've got on Wii so far from 3rd party devs, but there's certainly a lot of quality anyway. And don't get me started on the DS lineup... it's my favourite handheld since the original GB.

Re: ISOHaven - 19 hours ago

Interesting, because I have QUOTES from you stating that ALL Wii owners are retarded and that the ONLY people who own a Wii are women, old people and gays. You know...all the same crap that comes from you in which people started calling you a douche bag.

"The DS is better designed and more useful than the Wii. Sure the games suck"
So, you own a DS even thou the games "suck". Wow, so you just keep buying devices that give you no enjoyment at all. No wonder you're a prick.

"I actually bought it because it was the first decent 3D handheld."
So, you bought it because it's GOOD in terms of 3D yet you didn't qualify it with yourself regarding the actual games as you think all the games "SUCK". Yup, that pretty much makes you an idiot.

"It's also reasonably priced unlike the Wii."
Hum...the cheapest console on the market is also the most unreasonably prices console and it just so happens to be selling more then ANYONE ELSE.

Good luck with your life, many psychiatric facilitiies are ready to treat your disease. The first step however is admitting you need help....
