 The UK's National Obesity Forum has condemned Nintendo's hit Wii Fit, game for calling a 10-year old girl fat, saying that the title's mechanics are misleading and potentially threatening to children."I'm absolutely aghast that children are being told they are fat," said Tam Fry of the National Obesity Forum after hearing about the case. "BMI is far from perfect but with children it simply should not be used." "A child's BMI can change every month and it is perfectly possible for a child to be stocky, yet still very fit," he adds. "I would be very concerned if children were using this game and I believe it should carry a warning for parents." For its part, Nintendo apologized through a spokesperson to customers who were offended by Wii Fit. The company conceded that "the resulting figures may not be entirely accurate for younger age groups due to varying levels of development." However, the game maker said that it will by no means issue a warning such as the one that the National Obesity Forum asks from them. We'll give you more updates on this on-going issue soon. |

Well the name says it all. It's pretty much a fitness program, and should be used for people that want to stay fit. But the game can't act as a physician or a fitness consultant.
She definitely told her mom who should have told her about childhood works, and how the body will change. Kid who are overweight, if I may use this term, could easily become tall and slim when they hit puberty.
You should consult a physician or get advice if the kid actually could benefit or not from this, and let her use it for fun if you judge that she understand her situation.
