1 Billion Canadian Dollars - Image 1

Canada's making some waves in the gaming industry as the NPD Group's November numbers reveal that the country has passed CA$ 1.13 billion (US$ 1.11 billion) for their year-to-date revenues.

It's nowhere near the US$ 2.63 billion the US chucked out last month but considering that the Canadian industry rose a staggering 65% from the same period from last year, it's a pretty big achievement and a positive sign that gaming's getting larger than ever.

Unlike the US which favored Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Canada's most popular game is Super Mario Galaxy. They do share the first three top consoles though, with the DS in first place, the Wii in second, and the Xbox 360 coming in third.

Here are Canada's hardware and software sales figures for November:

Hardware:
  1. Nintendo DS - 120,000
  2. Nintendo Wii - 82,000
  3. Xbox 360 - 59,000
  4. PlayStation 3 - 51,000
  5. PlayStation Portable - 33,000
  6. PlayStation 2 - 30,000
Software:
  1. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) - Nintendo - 94,000
  2. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock W/Guitar (PS2) - Activision - 82,000
  3. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (X360) - Activision - 78,000
  4. Assassin's Creed (X360) - Ubisoft - 60,000
  5. Wii Play W/Remote (Wii) - Nintendo - 51,000
  6. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock W/ Wireless Guitar (X360) - Activision - 32,000
