Just yesterday, Microsoft had revealed their black crusader, the Xbox 360 Elite, which stirred the Xbox 360 community for its slick look and roomy 120 GB hard drive storage. While the Xbox 360 is now going back to the old-school black motif, like most PC Banzai Runner rigs (minus all the bells and whistles) and the PlayStation 3 (need we say the Atari Jaguar and the Sega Genesis, too?), Microsoft did deal a below-the-belt blow to current top selling Nintendo Wii.

Microsoft deals a low-blow against Nintendo - Image 1John Rodman, Group Product Manager for the Xbox and Xbox Live, said, "We don’t feel like the Wii customer and the Xbox customer are the same thing. We think that as soon as the Wii customer turns 14 they want something else." He is entitled to his own opinion, but he hasn't even considered the two other demographics the Wii has touched.

The aged and the female parts of the incidental gamer market have also been tapped into by the fun, non-gamer friendly Wii. Retirement homes have equipped their entertainment centers with Nintendo's next-gen platform, and the only console to have even reached the corporate bracket of the market is also the Wii. Ever had an Xbox 360 in your department's lounge room?

Earlier, Microsoft Game Studios VP Shane Kim explained why they were inspired with Nintendo's accomplishments with the Wii and how Microsoft Game Studios hopes to tap into a broader piece of the market that none of the competing platforms knew existed. According to Kim, they hope to follow suit by attracting older, younger and fairer people to their platform. So why comment like this now?

Funny, I'm 30 and I love the Wii. Maybe if I wanted the same old thing all over again I would go with the 360... no, I think that I've mature past needing bloody violence to make a game fun.

I'm very happy with the Wii so far, and the games have been great - I can't wait to see what happens in the next year. Everyone I know who plays it seems to think it's pretty great. Even my step-mother-in-law, who passionately hates video games, said "Gee, I almost think that this game machine is alright." She approved of the "take a break" screens in Wii Sports that we ignored.

» Elite for me maybe a Wii once we saved up after that as wll

Well reversing things if I were going to buy another console other than the new ELite which I am going to preorder then it would be the Wii for the alternative type of gameplay. We have no interest in watching the few HD movies available(and I could hardly notice the difference in the store demo against a normal dvd running out of hdmi socket) so the PS3 would really server no purpose in our household.

 » Funny...

That's pretty funny, since every time I get on xbox live to play Halo, all I ever seem to hear are whiny pre-pubescent voices...

 » yup.

love my Wii- but think I am going to start saving up for the black 360... it's not that I am disappointed with my Wii graphics or performance. what I am disappointed with are the games. barely any are oriented to a late 20's-early 30's male gamer. I have zelda, call of duty 3, sports, and play. nothing else for a guy who wants more variety- let's go Nintendo! get those third party developers going! give them a discount for making serious adult games for your Wii!!

 » why?

why waste you money on a 360 when you can get the same + better games on the pc? who here has a pc/laptop that is more powerful then the 360... i think everyone. if you want halo people, get a pc.

at least nintendo offers something different, that the 360 can't and the pc can only do with mods, but still using the wiimote :P

» I have now been tempted by the new Elite 360

Im getting the new 360 Elite, the Wii is great but I also want games like Gears of War,Viva Pinata,Dead Rising and Banjo and Kazoo etc when it comes out soon as they are only on the 360.

i dont think anyone has a PC more powerful than the 360, unless youre willing to drop 2 grand on a computer (how much does the 360 cost again?)
