WiiIn a recent interview with a few top guys at Microsoft, Kikzio Games asked whether or not Microsoft viewed the Wii as "competition". Of course, Shane Kim responded no due to a few reasons. The Xbox 360 is a multimedia power horse, allowing you to play in HD, and they do not share the same online vision. No one at this time really knows Nintendo's online vision, but they have produced a very large user base on the NDS, so hopefully the Wii will be even greater. The Wii also does not have HD capabilities, something of which the PS3 and 360 will have. Microsoft just doesn't think it would be "fair" to consider them competition. Personally, I think it's just that they do not want to lose to Nintendo if they say they are competition.

 » That's dirty pool!

Just because the Wii doesn't have the same capabilities as the 360, doesn't mean it's a gaming console... 360 is marketed as a video game console, and so is the Wii... Sure there other features like the HD DVD, and mostion sensing, but to say the 360 is not a game console, and the Wii is not a game console is a complete and utter false.

 » It's really a good thing

There is no point in every system offering the same thing. The 360, Wii, and PS3. shouldn't have to fight to the death...

 » Hmm

Is HD really all the arguements they've got? That's rather weak, isn't it?

I agree with ssj3fox here, they don't have to compete... But then again, a lot of folks will go for just one console, so I'm not quite sure there either.

» Of course HD is all they have

They're going down the same path as Sony. "OMG Make t3h graphics and we be the ownage"

There's only one good thing about the competition. It gives the companies more incentive to improve the system more and make each more innovative. (Not that Sony have caught onto the innovative thing.)

i agree microsoft feels that they could lose to Nintendo wii so they dont want to consider them rival. they are all gaming consoles.

'Wii is' sounds like a red-neck of saying 'we are', im sure you've all heard that. Well according to Microsoft and my great red-neck translator. 'Wii is not competition' sounds like Microsoft admitting defeat to me. :P

 » Microsoft is right

The Wii is not competition. The 360 is a gaming console the Wii is a toy. Just like the DS is a toy, not a real gaming machine.

Nintendo needs to do some studies and figure out that toys don't make as much money and start trying to put out gaming machines.

Adults spend lots of money on machines. Parents spend small amounts of money on their kids toys.

» commenter #7 is an idiot

Yes i'm sure the Wii isn't competition because its offering a different user experience, innovation, cheaper games, FULL backwards compatibility (not that ripoff 360 junk). I'm sure the ds is a toy because its sold over 10 million units oh and I think you need to stop being in denial.

lol that is so stupid! The DS is out selling the 360 and MS has yet to make money on the Xbox or the 360. Even the Gamecube made some profit... MS needs to learn how to budget...

Open your eyes to the real world. You don't live in Japan. I hate when people start telling me the numbers of DS's that are selling and use Japan's numbers. The DS isn't half as good in the US and Europe. The Gamecube has been dead forever except in Japan. Japan is weird, they buy Nintendo because its a Japanese company.

Just watch, the Wii will do good in Japan and only last a year or two in the states and Europe. Nintendo can't compete with PS3 and 360. The Wii's graphics suck and so does its controller. Who wants carpal tunnel from playing games?

Why waist your money on a Wii...? You think you'll be saving money, but you know good and well that your going to trade it in for a PS3 or 360 once your hands hurt and you want better games and graphics.

 » why

why do people keep turning it into a giant arguement. The Wii is not out yet so don't judge it just yet just give it a try. We all know that the PS3 is gonna give the same exact experience that most people already get with their cheaper xbox 360's. I don't even think the wii is competition because most people will own the wii because it's cheaper and only own either sony's or ms's to go with it.

"Why waist your money on a Wii...? "

Look I know you're some fat kid that's worried about having to work up a sweat to play video games, but I think once you discover girls aren't gross and you want to lose some weight so you can start dating, you'll embrace the change. Don't worry about getting carpal tunnel, you probably need to build some muscles somewhere, why not in your wrist flexors? You've got to start somewhere. Don't worry about Nintendo studying: You need to focus on your spelling homework. Don't act like you know anything about being an adult; you're a fanBOY. By the way: WASTE is what comes from your keyboard when you post. WAIST is that thing blocking your view of your feet.

Thx for the grammar... you sure must feel smart. Now I'll give you a lesson in grammar: Spell check doesn't find grammar errors. Most people know that, but I guess Nintendo fanboys are just too far in the stone age to realize things like that.

And I'm not a fat kid, but you probably are. So insecure about yourself that you have to put down others.

I don't even know why I post on anything related to Nintendo. I guess I just thought it was great what Microsoft thought about the wii. Nintendo is nothing now. PSP is better than the DS and the PS3 and 360 are better than the Wii. Nintendo already lost. The Wii is the next Dreamcast. And I'll be glad, Nintendo should just make games like Sega does now. Now making systems.

ps3 vs x360 ( I vote ps3 )
wii?

if we put wii in the game:
ps3 vs wii vs x360( wii will dominate )

why? because the wii cost ½ and offer gaming to non-gamers. You surely saw the "wii60" and the "psWii"? so a lot of people will buy it!

in terms of profit the ps3 and x360 will battle, and in number of sales, because wii will outsell ps3 and x360 but will surely make a lot less profit...

that's why we cannot say the battle is between three console. I mean, the wii is appart, the battle will only be between x360 and ps3.

ps: for all of you nintendo fanboys, this could be a good slogan: "we will dominate" lol, anyway I vote PS3 because I looove RPG, and dragon quest on wii will surely be a gimmick like dragon quest kenshin or dunno the name, the dragon quest with a plastic sword... I will surely buy a wii, but only for "special" games, like DS games. But personnally my psp is more used ( with devhook and all games ISO for free lol ( loco roco, astonishia story, generation of chaos, megaman X remake, megaman powered up, capcom classic collection, and now waiting valkyrie profile lenneth remake =D )

It should be obvious that the point of this is message from Microsoft is not that they're admitting defeat, but rather supporting the Wii60 faction. Essentially, since most people will have a choice between 360 and PS3 for the high-end consoles, they're putting forth that Wii60 is a reasonable choice since Wii and 360 aren't competing.

   by pablo (Unregistered) - 2006-07-04
 » Profit

16: The wii will make tons more profit, if it sells more units. There will be a slight profit on the hardware and each buyer will buy at least one title.

Nintendo will be rolling in it. I doubt the 360 or ps3 will ever make a large profit on their own. They are loss leaders.

"Open your eyes to the real world."

Nice general openere there. WTF are you even talking about?

"You don't live in Japan...Japan is weird, they buy Nintendo because its a Japanese company."

Japan continually innovates and CHANGES THE WORLD with new inventions everyday- not just with video games and digital entertainment, but in fields of science and medicine. Maybe if you went to college, you would know this. Or just visit Japan; the way of life in a typical suburban Japanese city is at least 5 years ahead of ANY city in the United States. Take a look at their underground flooding system, their subways, their monetary equilibrium, and the quality of life. Why is everything in Japan more expensive? Because the Japanese are so efficient that they can make the money to pay for their own goods. Their economy is an international epitome. If you understood this, you would be quiet.

"Who wants carpal tunnel from playing games?"

You are more susceptible to carpal tunnel syndrome from restricted motion rather than a range of mobility. Secretaries (people who sit in one place and never move around) get carpal tunnel- athletes don't. Your arguments are childish and make no sense. It doesn't even seem like you've done any research and are blindly making these statements.

"Why waist your money on a Wii...?"

Waste*. Please spell your own name correctly.

"You think you'll be saving money, but you know good and well that your going to trade it in for a PS3 or 360 once your hands hurt and you want better games and graphics."

I for one would never defect to the 360, after observing what it's capable of. It's an xbox with a white case. The PS3 is too expensive to be worth it. Is playing the same hack-n-slash games, and final fantasies worth the 600 dollars out of your wallet? Ask your parents, kid. I'm sure you'll get picture someday.

wii ftw!

only the huge difference in the size of wii and ps3/xbox360 is reason enough to buy wii.
and wii got the most innovative ideas in design, handling and upcoming games...
there is no reason for me to spend so much money in xbox360 oder ps3...

1)Spell check DOES find grammar errors, unless you're using a program pre-1998. Try it out before you make yourself look like more of an idiot.

2)Spell check won't change homophones; that's your job. So like I said, work harder on your spelling homework.

3) Who's making fanboy comments? I'm not defending Nintendo, I'm just saying that your a fat, friendless, troll. Get your facts straight son.

It doesn't matter if you call yourself husky, big-boned, or Rubenesque, you're still fat. If that hurts your self esteem, tough.

I don't know why you post about Nintendo stuff either. You're clearly clueless and you don't fit into the demographic that Nintendo is trying to reach. They're trying to get away from the acne covered kids who sit in their rooms all day either playing videogames or trolling message board sites.

"And I'll be glad, Nintendo should just make games like Sega does now."

And the TRUE jealous fanboy in you comes out. You wish you could play the great games Nintendo puts out on your Xbox. Don't be so jealous. Get a paper route or something. Jeeze, it's not like Nintendos are that expensive.

You dedicate all your time to bashing a gaming company. That pretty much labels you as a celibate, overweight teenager. The funniest thing is..you will die alone! The hilarity.

no one will know how the wii controls. everyone whos smart will wait and see, but alot of diehard fans will go ahead and buy it. (note i didnt use fanboys because that word just shouldnt be used its gay) thats fine if they buy it. nintendo is great, but they need to start taking some risks, they havent made their own game in a while, its fine but they should try it. because zelda, metroid and mario are freakin amazing, im probably gonna buy the wii only for zelda if it gets great reviews. but everyone should STFU and go masturbate or something because no one knows how the will will be. i have a 360 and i love it. i maybe buy a ps3 or a wii or both if theyre good enough. so all of you *****s should just stop fighting and leave the fat, friendless, ugly, annoying, troll alone, because hes clearly retarded

What spell check has grammar check? You're calling me an idiot, but in all honesty you're not making sense. Who cares anyhow if someones grammar or spelling is incorrect? We are just posting on a blog.

You guys on these post are being real jerks. I'm bashing the Wii, you're bashing people. There is a difference. If I end up buying a Wii, then you guys can all laugh in my face. But I'm putting my bets on you guys trading in your Wii, at EB, for a 360 or PS3 once you decide on playing real NEXT GEN games.

 » Who cares?

Who cares if some people bash about the Wii. Everybody has their own opinion. You guys are doing the same by bashing both the Playstation 3 and XBOX 360; and worst, you are bashing people. To those guys who are bashing the Wii, if you hate it so much why do spend time coming to Wii forums bashing the console and the fans. Go to Sony and Microsoft forums and talk with your fellow fanboys there. (I'm not trying to offend people by calling them fanboys) Leave us Nintendo fans alone.

 » I prefer the Wii

I would prefer the Wii because it offers interactive gameplay (which is the whole point of videogames). I do not want to be one of those people who sit in front of a tv for hours playing a game while his brain is rotting slowly. With the Wii you can actually get some exercise while doing something fun, using your mind (for most nintendo games this is a necessity), and playing with your family and/or friends. You won't spend hours in front of a television either because you will eventually get tired. You can use that free time studying, working, exercising, or just hanging with your family and/or friends. (which is stuff you can do with the Wii anyway)
