Neil Thompson, Microsoft's regional director of Xbox in the UK, has emphasized the need for the videogame industry to impress upon parents that consoles and videogames have grown far beyond what they were in the past.

Thompson, who is also a member of ELSPA, lamented that a lot of parents still treat consoles and videogames as "kids' toys." Age ratings and content filters are just a couple of the ways they're employing to wean parents off of this erroneous thinking.

"As a platform holder we take our responsibility of enabling parents to make the right decisions for their children very seriously. This is why we build technologies into the platform that allow parents to switch content on or off as well as allowing them to control the amount of time the products can be used," said Thompson in an interview with MCV.

"The key for us is to make the setting of these controls very easy and ensure we’re also playing a leading role in publicizing age ratings and their importance to parents and retailers alike. Every responsible member of the video games industry needs to step up and play as active a role as we can to keep this education process front of mind. It’s ELSPA’s job to corral the industry around this agenda and ensure we’re all doing everything we can reasonably do.”

 » I agree

But I bet a lot of kids will get their hands on games like God Of War, GTAIV and Dante's Inferno.

» why put filters in games and consoles?

the kids will just disable them
e.g use default password
reset default settings will clear it in most cases if not a 5 min search on google will solve it

its like on pc's you just pull out cmos battery then log into safemode onto admin account (default)
then change your account to admin
uninstall all monitering software
then put your own passwords on block bios, parents account (change to user)
turn off boot from anything other than hdd
finnally put a really strong padloack on case and make sure to get a solid case

ill give anyone parent £100 if they can get past this in 1 day without padlock cutters, blacksmith or destroying case
(you can get locks so big you can't cut them with conventional tools)

In that case I would take the PC away, a kid with that much rebellion needs a stern talking to about respect.

Anyone who actually knows how to use a computer should also know that they should always put a password on the Admin account.

Besides the article was talking about consoles, in which case is quite easy to bypass and wouldn't be surprised if a kid could pull it off.

Sound so white? What country do you live in to believe that response sounded so white. It's all about showing respect to get respect. I think level headed people of any color would do the same. On the other hand I am mostly white and if my child did that to me, I would fly off the handle and maybe throw the damn computer into the street.

Haha I know how to do that; but the easiest way to remove all the spyware monitoring crap is to just reformat your hard drive, install a fancy os (like any kind of linux distro) and setup a password in your bios so you have to enter it each time you start your pc (the very begining). my dad is smart in computers also, and he could prob put in keyloggers and crap like that in my pc.. but he is the kind of person who doesn't want to fight it he insted would just takes my whole computer away and burn the hard drive
