Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games! - Image 1Now here's an unlikely pair. The flagship characters of both Nintendo and Sega going head-to-head in one game. What's more, they seem to have bagged this year's title for "Best in GC" award during the recent Leipzig Games Convention.

Published by Sega, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games has been hailed as the official game for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and will be released before the end of the year in preparation for the aforementioned event. Where else can you see the best of two worlds collide in a spectacular competition the whole world watches just once every four years?

It was probably this aspect that won the judges over. One of them was quoted as saying, "Finally consumers will be able to see who's faster and who can jump higher - Mario or Sonic? A great casual gaming experience for all kinds of gamers."

Other nominees included for the "Best in GC" title were Super Mario Galaxy and Wii Fit. There doesn't seem to be any announcement concerning the other winners so far, but we'll keep you posted on the full list soon.
