Mario Kart Wii details: Classic, GameCube controllers have less moves - Image 1

With Mario Kart Wii's U.S. release is just a few more weeks away, Nintendo has released a new press release covering more details regarding this game. Some of the new info the company revealed sheds more light on the game's multiplayer mode and control schemes.

We'll start with the controllers. According to Nintendo, while Mario Kart Wii carries support up to four control styles, the classic NES and GameCube controller setups won't be able to pull off certain moves.

No details were mentioned regarding what aren't available, though current speculation hints that it may be the new speed boost and wheelie moves. Both moves are mapped to the Wiimote's motion-sensitivity function.

That bad news aside, Nintendo also revealed some new details regarding Mario Kart Wii's track selection. Aside from its new tracks, the game will also carry over old favorites from Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart Super Circuit, Mario Kart  Double Dash!!, and Mario Kart DS.

As a reminder, Mario Kart Wii will be hitting the shelves this April 27. There's also a separate Wii Wheel controller out in the open, in case you're opting to give your opponents a fair match. Visit us again in case we run into more related news.

Interesting, I wonder what the Wii remote moves will be. Sounds like more of a good reason to try this out on the Wii.

Quite the mystery indeed! Perhaps an assist to where you'd want to place a banana peel or other traps exactly on the road ahead. On a side note, incoming MCS nintendo bashing?

The gamecube controller and near identical (although incompatible) classic controller have more than enough buttons to do anything in a game like mario kart.

Nintendo is just building hype by making it this way.
