IOS50, Mii Channel, and System Menu 3.4 - Image 1That was fast. Hackers from SoftChip have introduced a new app that goes around some of the Wiibrew blocks Nintendo introduced in the latest Wii Menu update.

This program enables some of the benefits of the new firmware without actually updating. (Repeat, just for emphasis: this is not the actual update. It's just a patch.)

This program is actually a modification of tona's IOS51 and Wii Shop installer. Requiem, the author of the program, describes it this way:

It works, but doesn’t update you to 3.4 (yet). It just enables the keyboard support in the mii channel and allows you to patch the fakesigning bug back into IOS50 (meaning you can install trucha’d content using IOS50.)

 » what it did

largely, nothing, but i added it (for the sake of completeness) as the lest step in my 3.3u fix instructions. restoring the fakesign bug is the real benefit. the 3.3u fix i used can be found here: http://forums.qj.net/showthread.php?t+145939

 » Still safe to upgrade...

As long as Homebrew Channel beta 9 is already installed, you can go ahead and upgrade.

HBC still launches and all of my apps work just fine.

Just don't install it if you don't have HBC yet. ;)

 » wads?

I read that the update blocks installation of wads via HBC, due to it changing something to due with the tickets.

Any confirmation on this?

why would you want to upgrade anyways...is having keyboard support in your mii channel so import to you??

yes it blocks a lot of stuff including wads or installed saves, no need to upgrade so dont listen to this bozo.

» A real good reason for not updating...

You guys should pay attention to the New TOS, it perfectly states..."We may without notifying you, download updates, patches, upgrades and similar software to your Wii Console and may disable unauthorized or illegal software placed on your Wii Console to ensure that your Wii Console is "operating properly and efficiently...." that's just BS...but for those that updated I recommend you to turn-off wii-connect 24.

one thing does worry me tho. we saw something similar when nintendo cracked down on GB piracy. a few months later we had the GBA. funny thing was a GBA emulator was released a month BEFORE the GBA itself. something tells me BIG N is up to something thats going to make us all pretty happy (club nintendo.. internet channel 2.0) and doesn't want it's CS dept cluttered with problems they did not create.
do you know nintendo gets calls about the R4? people want NINTENDO to give them tech support concerning the R4.
i honestly think the updates are locking off anything that might disrupt with their next big push, especially with the holidays so close. i believe bootmii is more crucial then ever, so that we can support the wii's updates AND homebrew.

 » Suprise.....

At least Sony gives you new (useful) features with firmware updates.

Nintendo thinks they can download patches and updates to my Wii without even letting me know? Forcefully removing software, just because it has potential to hurt their profit margin slightly? They also have the balls to FLAT OUT LIE about the reason behind it.

Screw you Nintendo

Nobody in their right mind should update. Don't download the Nintendo channel. Turn off Wiiconnect 24.
Also, stop buying CRAP Wii games that Nintendo insists on switching to making for more profits.
