Game consoles have been inundated by a whole slew of rhythm game releases in the past few years, and there are even more on the way. Harmonix, arguably the party most responsible for the rhythm game surge, thinks that this will stop in the future, but only because gamers won't even need a console to play rhythm games on. “I think you could foresee a future where maybe you don’t even have a console,” said Harmonix's Josh Randall, speaking to VideoGamer.com. “Your instrument can have all these songs and you just plug it into your TV. "I’m sure it [the genre] is going to start to move in weird ways that no-one’s even thought of yet. ... Outside of Harmonix there are people doing interesting stuff in the mobile space," he added. "It’s going to be interesting when it all splinters apart and then comes back together in some form we’ve not even thought of yet." Related articles:

Let's add the price of Guitar Hero to the price of a cheap console (Wii, for example).

GH1 came out not long ago and they've already milked this music game stuff to f*ckin death, it's already gotten old and boring for the most part. Nothing changes in these games, not even the graphics, it's worse than Madden. And at least that crap only has one game a year
As for this particular comment by Harmonix (hate them now), songs built in = even higher prices than the ridiculous ones they have now. I hope they do it and nobody buys it, teach them to stop flooding the market with this stuff.

Everyone else remember those plug and play joysticks that played like 10catari games? Remember they were this huge fad before the Wii came out and distracted all the casual gamers. That is the only thing that I could think of as I read this.
This also reminds me of Activisions rather retarded demand for a PS3 price cut. Maybe they really will be abandoning not only Sony, but consoles in general in the future. For the price they are charging for these game/peripheral packs, the damn things should be able to do the whole thing by themselves. Rock band or Guitar hero, the full band kits are already two thirds the price of a Wii, and they can only do one thing.

» Humm...
They already have these, Disney produces them for Hannah Montana, actually. Guitars you just plug right in to TVs to play a crap guitar hero ripoff. Actually doesnt control too poorly or anything. I think the average Montana fan is just too stupid to do it.
Anywho, its not a very good idea.

$100. No wires needed (except the strings, of course, but it comes with those plus a spare set). The number of songs you can play are only limited by your skill. No DLC to nickel and dime you to death. You can even compose your own stuff! Play it anywhere! No TV required! You can even use it to earn money if you get good enough...

» Oh!
And you don't look like nearly as much of a lazy, loser, douchebag when you play this one, so there's that added bonus, too.
