Game Critics LogoThe Game Critics Awards are a collaboration between many different media outlets like GameSpot, Electronics Gaming Monthly, IGN, and even places like MTV Digital. They have decided on what they thought had the best showing at E3.

Best Hardware/Peripheral - Wii (Nintendo)
Best Console Game - Gears of War (Epic Games / Microsoft Games Studio for Xbox 360)
Best PC Game - Spore (Maxis/Electronic Arts for PC)
Best Handheld Game - The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (Nintendo for Nintendo DS)
Best Action Game - Gears of War (Epic Games / Microsoft Games Studio for Xbox 360)
Best Action/Adventure Game - Assassin's Creed (Ubisoft Montreal / UbiSoft for PlayStation 3)
Best Role-Playing Game - Mass Effect (Bioware / Microsoft Games Studio for Xbox 360)
Best Racing Game - Excite Truck (Monster Games / Nintendo for Wii)
Best Simulation Game - Spore (Maxis/Electronic Arts for PC)

Best Puzzle/Trivia/Parlor Game - Guitar Hero 2 (Harmonix / Red Octane for PlayStation 2)
Best Online Multiplayer - Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (Splash Damage/id/Activision for PC)

The PC took home five awards followed by four for the Wii and 3 for the Xbox 360. The PS3 lagged behind its two competitors with 2 awards while the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS had to be content with one award each. It was better than the GameCube, Xbox, and PSP which, although nominated, got no awards whatsoever.

Nintendo was the winner among publishers with five of their products winning awards. Electronic Arts and Microsoft followed with 3 awards a piece. The other publishers received one each.

The Game Critics Award Winners were announced today, 11 minutes before this article was posted. It's definitely not old news. The Game Critics Awards are not just by IGN as you say. They are from almost every major media outlet that involves video games. It's interesting to see companies that would usually be competing against each other come together to decide upon these things.

This is not just PSPUpdates. It's QJ.net. This was posted in every game platform blog, including the PSP. Every gaming platform had a nomination for at least something.

BioShock was nominated for Best of Show, Best Original Game, Best Console Game, and Best Action/Adventure Game. However, it didn't win any of them.

Hmmm,

Excite Truck > GTHD?

I disagree.

Wii looks dated already, should have either done a proper next gen system or even just released the controller for the Cube instead.

MGS4 isnt there?... some critics... pfft. Games that deserve to be listed there would be: Gears of War, Assassin's Creed, Heavenly Sword and Mass Effect... dno what the rest are there for but hey... the critic's have spoken.

Best Racing Game - Excite Truck ?! .... Cmon, this is just going way to far, now.

Anymore load, and wheels are gonna pop away from the Wii bandwagon.

» Game Critics Vote on what THEY saw, not YOU

They were there, you were not. Why is everyone getting so mad? Who cares if some of your games didn't get the vote. Yes, I would have liked to see MGS4 get an award as well, and Gears of War definately deserved its award in my opinion!

But what I don't understand is the flaming from people that weren't there. I wasn't there, but I'm not gonna get mad cause Exite Truck got an award. I wasn't there, I didn't see how fantastic the game actually was. So if you weren't at E3 shut your pie hole and just let the votes speak for themselves.

 » MGS4

wasnt playable, no gameplay footage exists, how could it win an award? Off of CGI? Thats rediculous, just like assasin's creed which had no gameplay, get real.

Yeah, this is a blog, but if QJ is going to call themselves PSPupdates, the blogs should have something to do with the PSP.

I can understand why folks get mad when non-psp news is shown -- it isn't professional (and I use the word 'professional' because QJ themselves are trying to portray themselves as a professional gaming news site).

QJ.net has sections for all the various platforms -- the news should be filtered to the correct place, and folks can browse to the other areas if they want to read up on xbox, wii, etc.

I for one would rather have only psp updates (even if that meant less "news" daily), than filler articles that have nothing to do with the PSP.

An example of good news filtering would be maxconole.net :http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&feed=psp

 » heh..

I wouldn't say this isn't PSP news just because no PSP titles are listed.. It just shows that no wicked PSP titles were at the E3. As this is an E3 award article it counts for every console/platform, is that so hard to understand?

Of course guys just because they got the dirt effects right on GTHD just means that its much more fun and not the same stuff as previous GT versions right guys?

"Gears Of War? They must be kidding, other than shiny gfx its among the most generic and boring things there"

I agree, Gears of War is just another Halo-esque game, but in 3rd person. Who needs it

umm heavenly sword best fighter? Thats like calling Mario Kart the best driving simulator.

Also, Excite truck best racer? WTF! Did someone forget motor storm? That game looks a hell of a lot more impresive then that *****ty excite truck game.

I think I already said this, but PSP is a part of the Game Critics Awards. It's a gaming system. It actually won Best of Show two years ago. It was nominated for a few awards. We reported those before, and posted this as a follow up to those wondering who the winners were.

Games like MGS4, SSBB, and FFXIII were not eligible because they were only shown in trailer form. Assassin's Creed was actually demoed behind closed doors.

Heavenly Sword was "Best Fighter" because they called it an "Action-Adventure-Fighter" or something. I think it was a bit wierd as well...

Excite Bike obviously left a better impression on them than Motorstorm or GTHD. It might be because of the nostalgia factor or innovativeness.

Again, Sony Fanboy's at their finsest.

"Gears Of War? They must be kidding, other than shiny gfx its among the most generic and boring things there."

The critics aren't wrong. If every professional Game magazine/website says this game is good, and I mean EVERY one (which they do), then it is a good game. Don't be in denial.

My best guess is that you've never played the game, so don't judge the game on it's gameplay, because you have no idea. So before you post something idiotic such as this again, you might want to actually think about what you're about to type.

The Japanese would strongly disagree with those awards.

14 says it all. To all editors please post PSP information on PSP UPDATES not other off topic info. If people want that type of info they will google it. Listen to your site users and maybe you won't get comments like this. Your effort is appreciated but it would be nice if it was put towards information regarding the psp.

 » Where is MotorStorm

Excite Truck is a pretty dumb game compared with MotorStorm in all aspects, this has something to do with the Wiimote or simply Wii bias?. Others choice seems reasonable.
