News-hopping all over the internet, you may have come across an article or two about this massive full-size Gundam watching over the city of Tokyo over the past couple of weeks. It's huge, it's awesome, and I bet the Japanese sleep better at night knowing they have a big-ass robot to save the day from terrorist attacks. Yes, this big guy isn't just a massive scarecrow to fend-off evildoers - it moves. Video here to show you how.
Okay, so it's just a few turns of the head, making it look like the mecha is scanning the horizon for signs of invading evildoers. This life-size RX-78 is part of the Green Tokyo Gundam Project, a celebration of the highly-successful Gundam's 30th anniversary. And because that thing looks too awesome for one vid, here's another one: How about some Gundam videos? |

Indeed, that is a waste of money. If they can't seem to find a way to change its pose or stance, then whats the point, its not like its going to accomplish anything. Most likely, it will only ever be used to fall over and splatter people behind it. The money could have been better spent paying off America's debt than building some Anime thing.

and @ cloud505, there are alot more money wasting elsewhere than this structure, this can actually be profitable as tourist attraction.

The west for many years have been the ones with the money sending it through to the eastern countries. Now china and asia is lending more to the west and have all the funds while the west has struggled to match the low cost of life and high productivity of the east. It's not out of the question that Japan could bail out America but like tsujinai says from Japan's position why should they. Japan is just coming out of recession also, I doubt their government will be making any high risk investments.
