When we think Final Fantasy, we usually imagine gameplay that entails long hours of grinding and equipment hunting. However, WiiWare's Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King is quite a step away from the kind of gameplay we've come to be familiar with.
My Life as a King is a country-building simulator, instead of the usual world-roaming gameplay. There's still a lot that hasn't been revealed about the game. For instance, will it still have an exp system? And how will it make use of character classes?
One new system in the game will be making use of medals. Medals have three different categories (that we know of so far): power, endurance, and special. From what we can tell of the translation, they act as a kind of AP, or stat-boosting system.
The Power and Endurance medals directly affect your characters in the game, while the Special medals affect your kingdom. Some medals can also be used as a form of currency. In all, it sounds like a different, but still familiar Final Fantasy gameplay system.
But just how much different will My Life as a King be from other FF games? Well, we'll have to wait until the game actually comes out and we get our hands on it. It's scheduled to be released sometime in May. We'll keep you posted.
