Dev NoNameNo is back in the Nintendo Wii homebrew circuit to announce ExistenzE, the demo of the first soundchip music disk for your Wii.

What is a music disk, you may ask? Basically it's the computer counterpart of a music album. The songs in a music disk are packaged in a program with a custom user interface so that a music player won't be needed anymore.

Moreover, "demo" in this regard is a bit different than demo games. In the computer subculture that is the demoscene - a demo being a non-interactive multimedia presentation.

For the homebrew ExistenzE, dev NoNameNo used songs from the German musician Jochen Hippel, a pioneer in computer music back in the 16-bit era. Hippel's first work was a bundle of rock-arranged Christmas songs for the Commodore 64.

Another homebrew credited to dev NoNameNo, GRRLIB version 1.6 was used in the creation of ExistenzE. Here is a rundown of the controls so you can explore the demo soundchip music disk.
  • Gamecube controller = up/down to scroll from one line to another. Press R or L to speed up. A to select.
  • Wiimote = any button to power on. Up and down functions.
Coder NoNameNo tells us that the source code is available upon request. And we hope this demo makes waves as this will open up the Nintendo Wii as a music box. More updates as QJ.NET gets them.
