 After their takeover bid of Take-Two Interactive fell through, Electronic Arts may be on the hunt once again for another studio to buy out. Rumor has it that this time, EA's eyes are set on Epic Games.According to Gameguru, EA has already started looking into the viability of acquiring Epic and, in effect, the Unreal Engine. Word is that EA's main plan this time is to acquire exclusive licensing rights to the next generation of Epic's Unreal Engine. And of course, Epic's games. Gameguru also notes that an EA employee has reportedly been "shifted to Microsoft" to check out how strong the potential of the Gears of War series as a long-term franchise is. It's only a rumor at this point, but for discussion's sake, how do you guys feel about an EA-published Gears of War 3? Related articles:

That if they do get Epic, EA probably won't license the Unreal 3 engine to anyone so they can keep it to themselves and that would be the worst out come; look at how many games rely on the Unreal 3 engine.

I don't see where all this EA hate comes from. I've been playing EA games back since the PC Need for Speed days.
Even now I like a lot of their games they publish or create. Most Wanted, Army of Two, Orange Box, Rock Band, NHL xx, Madden xx.
Is there something I'm missing because I always see EA hate but I love their games.

I had a 360 at launch, it died atfter 2.5 years, so I figured I'd switch it up and go with PS3....
Although PS3 is alot more "hardcore" in terms of customization, standard features and game settings.....the software side is extremely lacking....
Adding friends is a pain in the ass, playing music in the background is not built in by the OS but needs to be supported by the game, no game invites....the controller doesn't go into standby mode.....little software things that set 360 apart....
However, MGS4 showed me that the PS3 is starting to walk now instead of crawl....and soon it will have it's feet under it and be running....the 360 is already running, and soon devs will need to start pumping roids and anything else they can do to squeeze more out of it....but that is only as far as technical game elements are concerned....I still beleive 360 will have the better software "experience" this gen....as far as online play, friendslist, achievements and all the other stuff that isn't really crucial to games, but nice to have.....

the problem with PS3 is that the 360 is holding it back. It could offer a LOT more graphically, and storage wise. But since publishers are only worried about getting the game out it seems they code them ALL for 360, then port it to PS3. So in the end, even though PS3 could handle more graphics and more sound and more content it just doesnt, because then they would have to make the game twice.
The Wii is only getting 3rd party games because they can port all the PSP games straight over to it and give it motion controls. That why MOST of the half assed games on Wii are usually better on PSP. I own a PSP and a Wii. If its a 3rd person game Ill get it for the PSP every time. The Wii specific games are usually decent.
The ONLY reason MS has money to THROW at the 360 is because they do OTHER things as well. Its no secret they are losing MILLIONS of $$$ on the 360, and I am sure if they cant start to turn a profit on that soon they will shut the doors on the project. They cant keep taking money from their OS sales to put the 360 on life support. It does not make sense.
Now, on to the EA thing. People hate a company that succeeds. This is not new. Everyone bashes on MS and Bill gates because he has money and the things he cant make he just buys the company that does, Disney does the same thing with animation studios (mononoke hime anyone?), Walmart does a similar strategy but most people dont see that end of it. In Canada people hate Telus (cell phones) because they bought out a few companies to become the biggest in canada.
If you look at it from EA's perspective you would not see the problem. In this Business world you eaither buy out other companies to make your own bigger, or you get bought out. EA wants to be pro active with their business so rather than being bought out, they are buying out. Most of the guys who are on the "hate on EA" bandwagon have got a RECENT EA title in their collection. Maybe their whole collection is EA? So, they notice this and think that negative attention will convince others that they suck and not support them. If you guys REALLY think their games suck, then dont buy them. But I bet you there are enough people who do NOT read on here that will go buy ANY new EA game that your couple missed sales will NOT effect them enough to do anything about it.

Perfect example of the 360 holding games back: id Software's RAGE. Because of the 360's limitations they changed the entire game so it could be limited to 2 discs. I mean come on, the game was suppose to have like 5 or so wastelands and now its all been consolidated into 2 just because of the 360.

That's highly debatable. I grew up when Disney actually did animation instead of all this 3D CG crap. Disney then and now might as well been two different companies with how downgraded the quality of the animation + story telling is going these days. The only good thing even related to Disney to come out these days is the Kingdom Hearts series and thats not even animation.

Now on to EA. EA is now a weak company as far as quality goes. They have killed the market for quality in football and mostly across the board. Saying that, I have been playing EA games since the days of Sega. They have lost their edge in the market. They push games out like crazy and in that sense it's a good thing. The bad thing is they dont make their teams develop quality at any level in 70% of them. They will every so ofter make a playable game that's worth buy but the good game odds aren't in their favor. What the need to do is allow these other companies to raise the competition level so we can see better shiznit. There is no need for one company to control the market because all that does is destroy the integrity of the game or game's. I hate the fact that they bought the NFL license. To me that made no since because since 2005, they haven't made a good football game or worthy one. This year's Madden is OK and a better attempt then before but they lost their luster.

The reason Microsoft discontinued the original Xbox is because the 360 had came out. It was also losing them a lot of money due to the fact that it cost more to make it than what they were selling it for.
The 360 is far from being discontinued. Games like Halo 3 and Gears of War (and many, many others) will keep that console alive for a very long time. Sure the disc space doesn't compare to the PS3, but that won't stop people from buying 360 games. But, Blu-ray access is insanley slow. That is why you see games having to put data on the PS3's HDD just so they can load faster. I personally think the PS3 is far more powerful in almost every way. Oh and Hudley the Wii has plenty of accessories to buy to. You still have to buy rechargable batteries, a charge station, 3 different types of controllers to play some games, and it does charge you for everything (except online, and if you can't pay $7 bucks a month to have a great online service then. . . well I don't know). It also doesn't burn up because It isn't half as powerful therefore the motherboard doesn't warp. The PS3 also has heat issues but there not as bad as the 360. I also don't believe the 360 has awful graphics. Most games look absolutley stunning. And in many ways 360 games set the bar for what games should play, look, and be like. All in all every console has its ups and downs.
