Take note that this is not an attack against Nintendo. It is, however, an inevitable question that had to be raised after so many months of Wii shortages. Nintendo had its own approximations of the world's total demand for the Wii, yet isn't working on a solution to expand their manufacturing capabilities.

Wii can see you, but you can't see Wii! - Image 1

So yeah, we have to ask, "What's up with the Wii?" In a blog article at Freakonomics, Dubner and Kimmelman contributed their thoughts on the pre-supposed "colossal blunder" on Nintendo's part in a piece entitled, "We Want a Wii! (Still)." We guess they're still hoping that this article would get noticed and someone would be hearty enough to ship them one...any charitable takers?

But there are certain points that their article delivers, and it seems plausible that something just isn't right. When did the Wii come out? November 2006, right? So over through the holidays and up to now, all Nintendo was able to do was to bring a couple hundred thousand more over the six million unit quota for the entire world market at the end of March.

Nintendo has reassured that they're doing everything possible, and that they are already at their maximum output. If that's the case, shouldn't they be working on outsourcing someone to beef up their production lines? There was no official announcement that Nintendo was experiencing supply shortages, so this shouldn't be a problem at all for the Japanese giant.

Still, it's April now, and while the Wii is steadily climbing up the console sales chart, it just remains a steady climb: no spikes, no curves, just one line with a constant slope. Is Nintendo planning on being the metaphorical slow, steady tortoise in this race? Hopefully, time will tell.

 » nintendo shouldn't

if nintendo outsources they will likely lose the quality in the product, just like the XBOX 360.

This is why a worldwide launch = bad idea. Even though the Wii was out in Japan a week or so early its still too close for them to keep up with production. Hopefully this doesn't hurt nintendo in the long run.

» Nintendo cant make them fast enough, MS has perfected it, Sony can make them but cant sell them

Wii is selling huge amounts as is the 360 but Nintendo just havent got their act together unlike MS who have their sale and demand perfected.

The PS3 has plenty of stock but its just not selling, its a weird situation..

 » I like my Wii

I still think its better than PS3 or 360, jsut keep in mind that different people have different preferences, adn you can't speak as if your preference is best. Some people are typing as if everything they write is fact( 2 posts up). All I can say is that my Wii is perfect for me, because I buy GAME consoles for GAMES, I buy a computer like alienware for EXTREME graphics and media and everything else. To me there is a clear distinction, so I don't believe that PS3 and 360 are true nex-gen consoles, all they did was revamped the graphics- and that is not too special, but the Wii actually gives you an infintite amount of ways you can play a game( analog=2D direction; Wii remote= 3D direction) and anyone who say that isn't nexgen is crazy, because you have more control with the Wii than with 360 and PS3. My last point is that those two consoles, as hi tech as they are, still don't match up to the computer.

 » one more thing:

so congradulations Nintendo for opening up the billions of new possibilities for the future of games. Everyone wants your consoles so bad that they fly off the shelves every week.
