2K Games Licenses Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 - Image 1

2K Games has announced that it has licensed Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3, the engine that powered Gears of War and Unreal Tournament 3. They'll be using the engine in a new line-up of games.

Unfortunately, aside from the fact that they'll be using the Unreal Engine, we don't know anything else about the games. 2K Games is still hush-hush on the whole thing, but if it means they'll be coming out with more Bioshock-quality games, then we're all for it.

If you remember, Bioshock ran with the Unreal Engine under its hood. While it got high praises from its critics for its storyline, the game also garnered numerous praises for its rich environments and beautiful water effects.

So on which platforms will 2K Games release these Unreal-powered games? Who knows. They've developed games on every platform the Engine supports: the PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and, just recently, the Wii. We'll keep you posted, so check back for updates!

UE3 is already a dated engine. SUkkas need to start using their own stuff if they want to make stuff that stands out.

UE3 is out-dated. Gears of War looked great when it came out. But when you look at games like Killzone 2, Crysis and Uncharted, suddenly Gears doesn't look so great anymore. I don't really mind UE3, but hopefully for the Bioshock sequel, UE3 will be optimized for moving surface water. It's disappointing that Bioshock, a game that's suppose to have the most realistic looking water, can't take it to the next level with moving surface water instead of flat-water because Unreal Engine 3 is holding them back.
