wiiOver at Google, we found this open letter to the Digg.com community. In the letter, the writer voices out his concern regarding the Wii's capacity to support External USB drives.

According to the anonymous letter-sender, although he did find pages regarding the how-to's, the problem was that it was in Spanish. And as we all, at one point, have met with the disastrous translation sites for languages foreign to our native tongue, he decided to post his rules on how to use an external USB hard drive.

Now, the caveat is that this set of rules is still just a theory. So if anyone could confirm this, then, well and good for all of us. Anyhow, here are the "rules":

  • Be sure to have the latest Wii firmware: (To have your Wii actualized)
  • Format the USB hard Drive to FAT32
  • Max 120GB (Though some website claims that a 300GB hard drive works too)
  • Remove Any SD card form the SD slot
  • The Wii should detect your USB hard drive as an SD card and you'd be able to use your External hard drive as storage (Virtual console, Game Saves...) just as it was an SD card.
Again, there's no actual confirmation if this would hold true for everyone, so take caution, alright?

 » simple?

Something this simple can be confirmed in a few minutes cant it?

Surely someone has a external drive with a PC that can format it...

It would seem that simple, but you have to remember... This is the internet.

Failure does not mean it's impossible, just that someone couldn't do it.

Success does not mean it's possible, just that someone may be lying.

Until widespread masses have tried it, we won't know for sure 1 way or another.

 » Why should it work...

even a 512MB SD-card is more than enough... why do you guys need a HDD atm?
Maybe it supports it in the future.
atm there is no need for it.
