Bobby Kotick has just released a strong statement regarding the future state of game consoles. According to him, companies such as Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony will be pressured to lower their prices due to the current state of the economy. In his statement yesterday, Kotick released these words: With the rising costs of fuel and food and housing, it is more difficult to go out and buy a US$ 399 console, and I think it's going to put pressure on the console manufacturers to reduce their prices. Well, Microsoft is already a step ahead because of their efforts in cutting down the prices in various regions, such as Asia, Canada, and even Europe. But will they do the same in North America? Who knows? With the way things are going right now with manufactures of the 360, it seems that Sony might even feel more pressure now to follow suit and cut down their prices also. Maybe Nintendo will be doing the same as well in the future. That's if Kotick's statement holds true. Aside from this, Kotick showed some concern regarding the whole take-over situation between Electronic Arts and Take-Two Interactive. He said that If ever this whole thing pushes through, it seems that EA will have a great power in the sports genre of video games. He said: That's concerning, sure. When you think about one company in control of the sports category, with no competition from anybody else, that could be a challenge. That's about it for the news on Bobby Kotick's statements. We'll keep you guys posted for more developments on this. |
